The Toronto Raptors announced on Tuesday that RJ Barrett is out for the rest of the preseason with a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder; how much time is he likely to miss, and who should see an uptick in minutes with Barrett out the lineup?

Who should slide into the starting role? Promote someone from the bench rotation? Slot a rookie to get a good look with the starters? Someone outside of the rotation to keep the rest of it the same? The most similar player to RJ? The best shooter? Hustle and effort guy?

  1. To keep competitive I’d go with Boucher and just run the offence like he isn’t there. Keep the rest of the lineup the same, short shift him if it isn’t working.

The thought of Ochai being there worries me. And anyone like Davion or Kelly make the bench really weird and the last thing we want is to have to rely on the starters for 40 min early.

Be shocked if he made opening night given the season is clearly focused on development as opposed to wins

I think Ochai is going to be the starter. Depth is getting a bit thin with RJ, Brown and Walter all out. Theres not a lot of other guards on guaranteed contracts left.

I got downvoted for saying this was more than just a bruise but should still be a mild form of a separation or dislocation lol. turns out i was right. I would say they take extra caution with him cus he needs those shoulders for his playstyle, i.e. to take contact. So my guess is he’s out about 3 weeks, up to a month.

They probably had a lot of experimenting to do the first month of the season anyway, so better to give the other players more time to show what they got. Plan was likely to eat losses early in the season too, and decide later if they can make a push for a playin/low play off berth. So, I’d expect them to try multiple looks out there with Ochai, Gradey and even Kelly.

Ugh this sucks. Can’t even get a healthy starting lineup for the opener, most likely. I’d go with Ochai to start for defensive purposes, unless coaching staff would rather play both davion and shead before Ochai then it’d make sense to start davion. Ahh, we suck pretty bad any way you look at it without any one of our top 4 guys.
