The New York Knicks Got Better, But At What Cost?

The New York Knicks Got Better, But At What Cost?

3:26 – Knicks concerns

The Knicks got better this offseason, but they did give up a lot. Today we go through why the KAT trade makes sense and the risks they’re taking by making the moves they did this offseason.

  1. As a Knicks fan, I think losing iHart is HUGE. Regardless, I love the additions and really like how Brunson has been solidified as our superstar. Although it was super fun to watch, I don’t think the previous iteration could win a chip. I’d be shocked if the gritty mentality doesn’t carry onto this year. BING BONG

  2. I usually like your content, but this video is pretty uninformed. Trading for Mikal had no effect on Hartenstein leaving — the Knicks were limited in the amount of $ they could offer him and OKC beat that amount by ~10m per year. Losing him was basically a foregone conclusion going into the offseason unless he was willing to take a huge pay cut.

Also, this is less clear, but I'm pretty sure the Knicks didn't trade for KAT just to play him at the 4, where he's a lot worse for reasons you mentioned. Their starting 5, especially against Boston, would have KAT at the 5 and either Hart or McBride at the 2. McBride is also a big reason why NY was willing to give up DiVincenzo, even though he's smaller he's a great shooter and defender. I think they see him as Donte lite.

  3. The loss of depth and the step back that they’ll take in defense to me caps their ceiling out at a conference finals contender. I don’t see how they’re a legit contender

  4. I liked what we had with the mikael acquisition this kat trade felt premature and sent 2 of our identity core guys away It’s kinda sad.

  5. Knicks got away with fouling Maxey in game 1 on the inbound pass, but since it’s NY and at home refs turned a blind eye. Got very lucky that series and then lost at home by 20 to the pacers while being heavy favorites. Not moved lol

  6. The Knicks had salary cap restrictions where they could only offer Hartenstein only 4 year/70 mil, no matter what.

  7. The Knicks offered iHart as much as they were allowed to. The narrative that other salaries had any effect is wrong

  8. This video is misinformed. We couldnt retain Hartenstein and knicks are trying to trade mitchell robinson

  9. the foul at 2:50 is a textbook foul bait that the ref's said they would cut down on. kat stops short, luka initiates contact in a forward motion outside of a normal shooting motion.

  10. Knicks were not able anyhow to match OKC offer to iHart (limitation of early Bird).

Why would you know we’d be able to see last year’s squad at full health when they are injured all the time?

To me Knicks did best they could considering Randle’s value: they basically switch so-so stretch-4 w/ some playmaking & injury history for legit stretch-5 w/ some playmaking & injury history.

  11. I loved this trade as a Wolves fan. I don't care about Randle. We got the 4th best 3pt shooter in the league and dumped one of the worst post CBA contracts in the process. KAT got locked up by 6'9" PJ Washington in the conference finals, can't play defense without being in foul trouble, can't use his size against smaller defenders, takes low IQ shots, can't put the ball on the ground, and has a shitty attitude when he's not playing well. He has too many flaws in his game to be getting paid a supermax. Good riddance.

  12. if they didn't trade for kat and since mitchell robinson is out that means either jericho sims, randall or precious achiuwa at the starting 5

  13. so at the moment with mitchell robinson out that means the backup centre is jericho sims or precious achiuwa.

  14. I would have preferred if the Knicks went after Ayton and kept Donte… That would have been an easy one for one swap especially since you didn't have to rely on Robinson to be healthy full time and your bench stays strong

    Brunson
    DD
    Bridges
    OG
    Ayton

McBride and hart off the bench with DD and Mitchel Robinson when he returns is a strong ass group

  15. Pay attention fellas… the knicks offensive rebounding and second chance points numbers are gonna go down this year… that's the only difference from last year… and I stand on that statement

  16. I don't know but I got the feeling that the Knicks are gonna be alright because they have a 7 foot kid on the squad that could fill the void.
