Klay Thompson will debut for the Mavericks soon but there’s a big problem for him in Dallas. This is a look at how a lot of Mavs fans and Coach Jason Kidd might be setting the Splash Brother up to fail.

  1. you don't lose your shooting on ACL injury. he just had 1 bad season and you calling him out? come on dude you've been a self porclaimed analyst you whole life. do better

  2. I'm a Luka fan and I've been following Mavs media for some 2 years nonstop. I have no idea where people got this idea that Klay is expected to be a superstar or even that he'll make a "big 3" with Luka and Kyrie. Sure, Kidd and Nico will say such things on national media — it's part of their job –, but the rationale is Klay is filling in for THJ; Grimes for Green and Naji for DJJ. All Klay is expected to do is space the floor, hit open 3s feeding off the gravity of Luka and Kyrie and avoid being a traffic cone on defense. That's pretty much it. Also, it makes no sense to look at his bad preseason night when neither Luka nor Kyrie was on the court, so he kept forcing shots because none of the guys off which he's supposed to play was there.

  3. Knowing all the details now, this does draw a tear to my of eye to realize how sad this is for Klay 😢

  4. Klay was never a super star, not even a star really. Without Steph nobody would know who this guy is today, he'd be Kyle Korver like. Easy to look good when because of Steph you find yourself playing 4 on 3 or 4 on 2 half the game.
He may get some good look playing with Luka, but Luka is not Steph. Steph knows when to pass quickly and also runs around without the ball. Luka holds on to it too much like one of his idiot idols, LeBron )

  5. How about start supporting Klay instead of just hating on the guy. Injuries and not playing for as long as he did, did have an impact on his offensive game. He’s still killa Klay. Y’all treating him like he’s Sabrina or bronny or something. He catches so many strays it’s borderline verbal abuse and harassment. He could drop any of yall haters off 11-0 any day any time.

  6. I'd be more sympathetic to Klay but he doesn't seem to accept that injuries and age catch up with everybody. (Even LeBron at some point.😂) He should be enjoying the fact that he still has a role in the league. He's had a fantastic career — just weird that he seems so bitter about everything. Good luck in Dallas.

  7. You're overblowing this. If he was being payed a max maybe but he knows he's worth. You said it yourself he still wants to win. The fact that he had no demands means he wants to earn his way back into being a star again. He has lowered the expectations on himself. That Kidd comment will not make his already diminished confident any lower. Its all up from here for klay in my opinion.

  8. This year's Warriors already look a lot better. Ball is moving. No-one chucking shots or trying to play heroball. Getting good shots in the flow of the offence, the young guys can run all day.

  9. You an your dumb hair an voice speaking on a sports you cant play doesn't matter, he will have to adjust to a new system but yeah dont cry.

  10. Klay knew if he played for L A with asshole Lebron that it would ruin his legacy in the bay area, for ever!

  11. People seem to forget when they look at the numbers that the Warriors were dominating that season before Klay returned. The record was incredible. But as soon as Klay came back, the team took a nosedive and became a lot more disgusting to watch. However, the team had such a strong start already, that it was enough to get them to the end. He performed alright in the playoffs, however, it was pretty evident that his return created a huge hole in terms of team cohesion that really reared its ugly head the following season. Because its really hard to play ball when you have to always watch for a person's ego and have to feed him the ball regardless of the situation or a tantrum will be thrown.

  12. Local media was brutal about Klay. Local sportscasters and fans wanted Klay traded or just gone. Bummed me out then, bums me out now. I will probably skip any game with the Mavericks.

  13. Pretty insightful comments from Casey. I am a huge Klay Stan and I’m not sure it went down exactly as you stated during the season, but it makes the most sense based upon the actions of Dray and Steph as well as the Front Office. Warriors didn’t want him. Could have had him for the same money as the Mavs but didn’t even offer that according to his camp. Occams razor suggests you are correct in your how it all went down.

  14. I don't think you follow Maverick basketball very well. Just listening to national people is not actually getting in there and finding out what Clay's role will be. Clay's role may not even be a 3rd scorer. The Mavs did sign Dinwitty who can be a third scorer as well. And then there is Marshall. The point is they want a spot up shooter. That failed them in the finals. But they already see that Clay can actually pass and can actually make offense. The Mavs need people that can offense when Luka and Irving are out. You completely missed this with 3 star thingy. The 3rd star on the Mavs is Derick Lively.

  15. The thing is, he's was and still is somewhat of a catch and shoot maestro. On this 2nd game, they didn't have Kyrie or Luka to take pressure off him. I think he'll still be good on Dallas, but only time will tell.

  16. He is still a good shooter, when the season starts, he will playing alongside with Kyrie & Luka, imagine the type of quality open shot he will take, standing catch and shoot is definitely better than running to a spot catch and shoot

  17. Wrong! Everyone knows the best big 3 in the NBA is LeBron James, AD, and Bronny on the LA Lakers!

  18. Looks like he can likely have a similar impact to Carmelo Anthony in his last few years as a veteran who can still shoot 40% from 3 and provide an offensive spike

  19. Mavs added Klay Naji & Grimes. All amazing to above average at worst 3point shooters and defenders even though klay obviously isnt in his prime anymore but he still averaged 18ppg on 39% 9 3pt FGA a game. Great roster and one of the deepest bench ITL. Also spence, great ball handler and can create shots and clutch and was a huge part of that 2022 WCF run. They even have a 7’5 defensive stopper. They were just a few pieces away from beating Boston and I think they’ll be able to this time with hopefully a HEALTHY Luka and Kyrie getting over the hump. Whoever they meet, I think they will beat. I feel like they should and will win it this year💯💯

  20. jason kidd isnt a good coach. he said luka was their leader when luka said kyrie is batman im robin. then kyrie balled out and jason kidd made a point to say luka is batman i was like wtf he is not smart. Luka knew what he was doing by saying that and it worked only for kidd to spoil the confidence boost. This is similar hes putting all the pressure on him.

  21. The 76rs big three?? That’s hilarious!! Will they ever play at the same time? Doubt it

  22. I dunno, He missed 5 games last year, Avgd 18ppg, and he is going to a squad loaded with scorers. I think he Mavs are too damn high on the list, but I dont mind the list. He is a sold role player, who actually can play defense, something that Luka or Kyrie are not known for.
