The OKC Thunder Might Actually Break Standard NBA Title Windows

#NBA #OKCThunder #NBAhighlights

The NBA season is here and there’s a reason why the OKC Thunder are considered favorites to come out of the Western Conference all the way to the NBA finals to challenge the Boston Celtics. The Thunder had arguably one of the best offseasons in the entire league. Despite the Knicks trading for Karl Anthony-Towns, the Timberwolves landing Julius Randle and Donte Divincenzo, and the Dallas Mavericks adding Klay Thompson, what OKC Thunder GM Sam Presti did by trading Josh Giddey and acquiring Alex Caruso as well as Isaiah Hartenstein might actually propel OKC to the NBA finals. The Thunder already have a core built around superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren, together with their stockpile of draft assets.

The question is, can the Thunder actually break the standard NBA championship window. Past OKC teams have always been challenged by salary cap limitations. This has been evident since the Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook era when Sam Presti had to trade James Harden to continue building a sustainable team in Oklahoma City. Can this new Shai Gilgeous-Alexander era Thunder finally extend their championship hopes with their newfound draft approach. The Thunder have already drafted strong role players in Cason Wallace, Nikola Topic, and they still have Lu Dort as well guys such as Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins. The Thunders core seems locked up for the foreseeable future but can they actually sustain their championship roster once things get expensive once again?

The Celtics have just won the NBA title thanks to trades for Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, but very soon, they will have to cut their payroll with the big deals of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Soon, the OKC Thunder have to extend the contracts of Jdub and Chet Holmgren, while Shai is also eligible to receive a supermax deal. How will the Thunder handle all the limitations of the NBAs 2nd apron, and can they finally beat teams like Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets, Luka Doncic and the Mavs, Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves, or Kevin Durant and the Suns, for them to make the NBA finals again?

  1. I agree.. Letting go of Dort or Ihart in a few years will almost be inevitable due to salary cap issues
