Why the Indiana Pacers Look Like a Different Team This Season (Pacers-76ers Game Recap)

Tonight, Alex and Facci recap the Pacers 118-114 overtime loss to the depleted 76ers. The guys dive into the final moments of both the 4th quarter and OT and share why they think Indiana failed to pull out a win. Alex points out Pascal’s play, Mathurin’s benching for Walker in the 2nd quarter, the Pacers rotations, Indy’s inability to slow down Eric Gordon and the discrepancy on the glass. Facci highlights the number of missed free throws, how worried he is about the team now that they are struggling out of the gate, having no answer for Maxey and failing to consistently make the plays necessary to win. Alex closes out the segment highlighting his biggest reason for why Indiana is struggling early on and discusses what a more realistic record prediction might be for this group. To end the show, Alex and Facci each share their Top 5 favorite sports logos of all time.

  1. haliburtons “all star” title needs to be revoked until he figures this out. his play has been absolutely horrible. clutch three was nice but we were in that scenario because of him. he kept turning the ball over and making bone headed plays. it is embarrassing knowing we’re paying him 50+ million a year for this comedy show.

  2. Love the podcast guys. You do a great job breaking everything down. I'm concerned about this teams identity. I hope they can act with a sense of urgency moving forward.

  3. Knicks fan here, I've been in your lovely state a bunch of times for conventions, and respect the proud basketball tradition. This podcast lives up to that tradition, and is just fun for any basketball fan. Keep up the good work!

  4. Yeah the Pacers are playing very sloppy it started in preseason and it carried over, typically when the Pacers rebound poorly they lose games. I was like the fans at the Fieldhouse only I was screaming at my tv, “GET THE REBOUNDS!” jeez

  5. That game reminded me of the old half court Pacers with no rebounding!Sixers were basicly walking into the paint getting buckets,Pacers doing too much standing around and not working.Play fast Pacers like you did last year.

  6. Fire the GM

    Fire Carlisle #FireRickCarlisle

    Move Nembhard to backup PG

    Move Nesmith to starting SG

Pick up Covington or Crowder at starting SF

Siakam stays at PF and plays better defense

Trade soft as Charmin Turner!!! Why do fans like this goofy dude!!! Get a real rebounding rim protecting center! 😳

This organization will NEVER win a Championship because they are clueless of how today’s NBA is played!!!

  7. Would rather have Buddy & Bruce around—at least we played faster, outscored teams & were fun to watch while getting out rebounded—Haliburton hasn’t been the same player since getting rid of Buddy—any other starting lineup Carlisle is complaining and changing but not this one with his favorite peeps stinking it up—Spicy P isn’t living up $42+ mil either!

  8. Still the same mistakes again and again carbon copy east finals game 3 and 4 leading 4-5 point with around 1-2 minutes to go and just blew it with silly turnovers. And overall the team just doesn’t look set doesn’t look ready what are they doing in the pre season i just don’t understand.

  9. Smdh… No one likes when you tell the truth. Where is the defense we added? Who is the C and 6 rebs for being a small ball C isn't enough. If Hali's offense is off, or turning it over. We will always lose. Because the defense isn't there. No one was guarding Maxey. His burst, first step was destroying everyone. Beat by Maxey alone is crazy.. Credit to Philly for adding wings and a real backup C. Something the Pacers never do.. 0 intensity.. Gave up Bruce Brown, threw away Hield, let Smith go, Nwora.. Killed all the vibes and let yourself get away from what your focus should have been.. Elite defender that can shoot/drive.. Like it or not they screwed up.. I'll take Bruce Brown, Obi and Turner at C all day over this bs.. Nesmith, Heild, Mathurin, Hali at his best with Nembhard and McConnell playing well.. They talk about "Pacers depth".. They gave it away and didn't improve the defense. While throwing away all their picks… Stay blind if you like y'all.. No one player is worth 3 or 6,7 other's unless that player is top 15. What are you completely shakin thing's up for??? They dropped the ball in this draft too.. All picks and drafts matter.. FA. They've made a lot of great choices, up until last year. Imo. Hali I haven't been as tough on because he is young and the face.. I expected him to take the Steph route with his body this year. The Olympics probably didn't help with that.. His size can help and hurt him at time's too at PG. The way they're moving the ball now looks forced compared to what it was.. because you aren't getting that same run, Bruce Brown and Heild.. Having 5 out that can all shoot from 3, run, is young, can pass, cut.. that's a bigger problem for team's.. Pascal makes you not fear that as much and has slowed them down. Say what you want about his individual play. It doesn't matter.. They're playing different now. Hali isn't getting through and able to get those no look passes to open player's now… Not the same offense, simply not there. What they had was beautiful to watch.. You don't completely throw it out.. You carefully add to it while leaving yourself as much flexibility as possible.. any big deal, has to be 100% the right deal.. Or in this small market team. You risk screwing up everything..
I appreciate you guy's for keeping it real as much as possible. Idk about you guy's.. But I couldn't help but see the moves OKC and other team's made. You don't add Pascal unless his defense is elite imo.. When you have Hali who needs to improve there and other young guy's. You can't give away your best defender in Bruce Brown, along with Smith, Heild, Nwora and several picks.. Is Pascal better than all of those player's/picks combined?? Maybe people should ask themselves that. Going 8 for 20ish whatever with hesitation on shooting 3's.. 6 rebs and 0 intensity isn't worth the trade imo. Not for my entire cap also and everything I'm giving up.. You not only lost the player's. You lost the heart of the team, vibes and mess with guy's emotions.. Ppl can say whatever they want. Playing like they were doesn't always happen in the league. That team was vibing on all levels.. I do believe Hali was genuinely hurt by those moves also.. Not only trying to learn a new game.. but losing close friendships and player's that made that team what it was.. it was a buzz kill imo.. It felt that way from day one to me and if I felt it. I'm sure other's did as well and it sucks.. I hope they can figure it out.. I know they better get Mathurin in there more. Dude has heart, this team lacks that. I know they can be better and get back to playing better.. But they will need to try and recapture what they lost.. while improving the D.. a lot of people and player's need to start being very honest within the organization too.. talk about what you need, what isn't workin.. stick up for eachother too.. you gotta be out there, be heard and let them know what you want to be successful. Everyone just needs to try their best.. I'm not sure what management can do now. Hopefully we will see some guy's grow into roles. Get more of a clear picture on where to go.. I wasn't for pushing this team in the first place.. Done that too quick, they had some great thing's going.. but they did the typical Pacer thing and letting that override their judgment screwed thing's up. Imo.. That we need to win now and get a name bs.. nah, you gotta be careful as hell with what you have when you're a #1 Offense. You were getting compared to the Warriors at one time… They didn't let that come together long enough.. Got involved too soon.. but I'm sure they were under pressure to make a move. They're smart guy's. Obviously they made a lot of great moves too. My talk comes from a place of passion and love. No hate lol. Comes off as that sometimes.. but I can't pretend to like what I'm seeing right now. Come together and figure it out y'all. I see them trying a bit, but it's messy right now.. In my honest opinion though.. this team took steps back.. That's probably going to happen anytime you shake thing's up that much..
too much is unknown about guy's roles within this team right now. I'm hoping they can find themselves and settle in a bit more as the season progresses, but idk. I don't think they can even make a proper trade at this point either. You have to see what you have.. and you definitely have to make the right trade next time.. if they do.. It wasn't the right time for a trade the last time, or wrong player. Especially at his price.. They wanted OG, but lost focus and moved too fast… Had they waited until the off-season. That would have been by far the best move and allowed them to build a true contender imo. The real move they can make is done. Now we need young player's to show us what they're truly made of.. Find their niche and make an impact on this team. Pacers need to be more careful than ever right now.. Give guy's room to breathe a bit.. let the dust settle.. so they can be themselves. You can't afford to trade away the wrong guy's anymore.. I don't expect anything soon.. what looks like small moves are always the best one's. If you know what you're getting.. they need to make that their approach and really study the player's they need to fill certain roles.. "I'm rambling" like usual. Lol idgad though. 😅 all love here, but real talk. I'm putting my faith in these young guy's. It's unfortunate they were pressed to come up.. But the time is now. Time to separate themselves from the pack. Show us you really want a spot. What you can do to impact this team. You might be pissed about the time and role you're getting.. But all that bs is temporary if you can show up and ball out. Give them a reason to never take you out the game. 🙌 all we can do now is be patient. Because we weren't last year. They have a lot of solid pieces.. but it's about where they fit, if they fit, how and what can we do moving forward.. Had they added key role player's that allowed flexibility.. and real defense. We wouldn't be pressed to see these young cats have to rise up so much.. 🤷 it is what it is now. I'm still hoping for a surprise breakout player this year. This team needs some time now.. We have to realize this is a completely different team. Only way is up from here on figuring thing's out.. developing guy's. 🙏

  10. Time to put the ball in the hands of Nesmith a heck of a lot more when its down to the wire. Nembhard late game turnovers in the Celtics' ECF series also lost us a game or two. Aaron will literally injure players who try and strip him. Doesn't matter if Hali starts but he def shouldn't close.

  11. The opinionated logo discussion that had nothing to do with Pacer basketball was so like coach Carlisle—What’s the appeal??

  12. Maybe the pacers are going for Cooper Flagg. Hahaha.

The 2024 Pacers are still the same in 2025. Given the pacers can't defend well. But getting out rebounded most of the time, most likely you will loose every game…

  13. Carlisle complains about rebounds for the 4th season in a row. And nothing ever changes on that front .

………. Isnt he the head coach?

  14. Rick Carlisle is a terrible coach. HOF Dirk's career deserved better. Pacers lost their identity. Turner gets owned by every true center.

  15. Everybody scores 45 on us have no idea when this defensive reputation gonna be questioned for those 2 guys

  16. Pascal Siakim is getting paid like a superstar so he needs to start performing like one. 🤔

  17. Mathurin is a dog and he needs to be in the starting backcourt with Haliburton. We need to make a trade for a 6’9 scorer and a backup big man or a new young big man

  18. Only good vs Detroit huh Benedict Frauderin? Wasting all ur points of the season to score against us
