I looked this up after seeing the GM survey results for best home court. San Antonio never gets mentioned but the Stats don’t lie: San Antonio has been the toughest place for NBA teams to play since the Spurs joined the NBA.
The Spurs would have to go winless at home for several seasons for the Cs and Ls to catch up.
Just 6 years ago the Spurs went 40-1 at home, a NBA Record.

Tim Duncan is one helluva drug
They got some big ass ~~women~~ winning percentages in San Antone
No shade, but it’s funny that Keldon Johnson’s face is on this when I think the Spurs have lost more games at home than they’ve won since he’s been on the team.
That’s why Tim Duncan is top 5 don’t @ me
That stat is gonna be a little worse after this season
special thanks to the air conditioning

Pop: time to burn that down
That’s what 27 years of David Robinson and Tim Duncan will get you.
What makes San Antonio such a difficult place to play?
I only checked for these 5 teams but, interestingly, home wins per title (the lower the better):
* Celtics: 1935/17 = 113.8
* Lakers: 1970/17 = 115.9
* Warriors: 1680/7 = 240
* Spurs: 1350/5 = 270
* Bulls: 1376/6 = 229.3
How much do they have to lose this year for that to drop down to .725?
I wanted to see how many of those wins were from Duncan, and discovered Duncan won 1001 games in his career, and started 999 of those games. So close to being satisfying
Nothing to do in San Antonio so nothing to distract—- used to be a narrative.
Or, we could reform the Washington Capitols, win one home game and then disband.
End of this year it will be 1350-541.
Probably will drop a bit after this season
It’s because they don’t have air conditioning.
It’s crazy how the 2015-16 Spurs went under the radar because an even more historic team was playing in the 2016 Warriors. But 40-1 at home is fucking absurd.
I don’t doubt the Spurs have a great home court advantage, but looking at it from a total winning percentage is a very flawed way of approaching it because of how it naturally correlates to a team’s overall win percentage. Teams that are good overall tend to in more often during home games, but that doesn’t necessarily relate to having a good home court advantage. It’s not a coincidence that the overall win percentage leaders are those exact same teams in that exact same order.
If you wanted to answer this from a true statistical perspective, you’d need to take the overall win/loss percentage from each franchise along with the home win/loss percentage, and see where the difference is at its greatest. Otherwise, you’re just tracking which franchises have been good with a bit of extra noise during their lifetimes.
Let’s bring down those numbers this season, fam.
It’s gonna take a hit this year
Getting pelted by churros in the parking lot breaks a lot of teams’ spirits
And it’s about to drop to like 72 or 71% after this season.
> I looked this up after seeing the GM survey results for best home court. San Antonio never gets mentioned but the Stats don’t lie
Poor conclusion imo. If San Antonio has a .700 win percentage overall (made up number), and a .730 home win percentage, that doesn’t mean they have a good home court advantage, just that they’re good. Whereas if some other team had a .550 win percentage, but a .650 home win percentage, that’s a much stronger home court advantage.
and Vic is gonna help us maintain that /s
Because of the Spurs simply having ridiculous talent since forever.
Like I‘m pretty sure 2019-20 and 2020-21 was the first time in franchise history that they didn’t have an all-star in two consecutive seasons.
