[Botte] RJ Barrett on contract negotiations: “Everybody thinks they’re worth more than they got. That’s probably literally every person. I’m thankful, and I was taught to not watch other people’s pockets.”

> Responding to a question about not being included on various lists in the annual GM survey released earlier in the day, Barrett again pointed to not being named an All-Rookie first-team or second-team selection following his first season with the Knicks in 2019-20.

> “I wasn’t on an All-Rookie team and look where I ended up,” Barrett said. “Where are some of those guys, you know what I mean?”

> The first team that year featured Memphis superstar Ja Morant and Barrett’s former Duke teammate Zion Williamson, along with Brandon Clarke, Kendrick Nunn and Eric Paschall. The second team featured Tyler Herro, Terence Davis II, Coby White, P.J. Washington and Rui Hachimura.

> Barrett inked a four-year contract extension worth up to $120 million last month, but Herro re-signed with Miami for $130 million over the same span. All-Star guard Darius Garland also re-upped for five years and $193 million with the Cavaliers.

> “Everybody thinks they’re worth more than they got. That’s probably literally every person. I’m thankful, and I was taught to not watch other people’s pockets,” said Barrett, who would’ve been eligible for a bigger deal if he waited until next summer. “My thought was I wanted to get a deal done, because like I’ve always said, I always wanted to be here. So I was trying to lock it in.”

Fwiw, Ja, Zion, and Garland signed extensions that, with incentives, are up to $46.2m/yr. Herro signed one up to $32.5m/yr and RJ at $30m/yr.

He missing out, pocket watching is the move

“Worry about yourself, hoe” RJ Barrett on Tyler Herro

I’ve never seen more confident and bad player at the same time, excluding the likes of J.R, Young and the crew.

So glad they added that RJ in the top right corner in the thumbnail.

Incoming: RJ Barrett low paid contract great for trade to contender

“Don’t watch other people’s pockets” is anti-union rhetoric lol. But he’s filthy rich (thanks to a union) so now it’s time for him to spew individualism and minding your own business.

  8. ButtVader

He already got paid more than he is worth though

  9. (Ja Better) Ja Morant
    (Zion better) Zion Williamson,
    **(RJ better) Brandon Clarke,
    (RJ Better) Kendrick Nunn
    RJ Better) Eric Paschall.**

    The second team featured
(Pretty even, though Herro has a slight edge) Tyler Herro,
    (??) Terence Davis II,
    **(RJ Better) Coby White,
    (RJ Better) P.J. Washington
    (RJ Better) Rui Hachimura.**

I know the lists were a “what have you done so far this season) type thing, but even back then, outside of percentages, RJ was a better player.

If looked as a “what you did this year only”, there are some arguments but RJ deserved at least 2nd team.

If looked as an indicator of future prowess and success, RJ was way too far back.

This guy has the perfect mentality to survive as a player on the Knicks

I wanted the Knicks and wants to stay a Knick forever and its not like he is getting paid pennies. He will fine playing for his favorite team.
