Wiggins talks about his recent contract extension and why he chose to take a pay cut to stay with the Warriors when he could’ve gotten more in free agency.

Makes sense.. secured 9 figures, is in the perfect situation, etc…

It’s actually crazy if you told me in 5 years time the warriors won three more titles. I wouldn’t even be too suprised. Excited and relieved sure but shocked not really.

  3. i don’t think he took a discount. besides, he already made max money so his total career earnings will approach 300M by the time he signs his next contract. having the ability to get some championships along the way without having to be the number 1 option is honestly sweet as hell. wiggins is in a really great spot.

What team would have offered him more? This seems in line with his market value, maybe he could have got 120/4 but he gets marketing opportunities and business ventures by staying in the Bay.

Sometimes taking the $109 million to play a key role on a contending team is exactly the right decision.

It’s a smart move. He has a player option in the last year, which will be under the new CBA. If he stays at his current level, by year three that will be one of the more in demand starter contracts. If GSW trades him and he wind up somewhere else before that last year, he could have a lot of leverage to get to pretty much any team he would want to go to / any team that would want to give him another contract/extension.

  7. You can’t buy championship rings. Super strong chance he gets at least one more in those four years.

  8. Happy that Wiggs found his spot in the league.

He’s in a great city, the team values him, they’re winning, and he doesn’t have to shoulder the responsibility of saving a franchise. He can just hoop

  9. Wiggins Island is now accepting new applications for permanent residency

He could tear both ACL’s tomorrow and still be paid. He could have a small decline this coming season and he’s still paid. Sometimes seeing the bigger picture and taking a little less to be in a good situation is the best move.

  11. The exact opposite of Schroder. I love Wiggins

    …nor should he.

Like he said, you never know what’s gonna happen. So many players hold out for that bigger deal and then either a fluke injury or a down-year happens and it’s gone.

    Get that bag sir.
