Can OG Anunoby Become an ALL-STAR This Season?

Does OG Anunoby still have All Star potential? Or have the past 2-3 years of stagnated growth and injuries dampened the outlook? With the emergence of Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet, is it fair to start viewing OG as the fourth most important part of this team going forward?

Let’s take a look at the trials and tribulations of OG Anunoby, the growth curve, and why some of these growing pains might still be leading to a good outcome as he now approaches the prime of his career.

OG Anunoby has been my favorite player for years, and I must admit, I still believe in his upside, even as very few around these parts still do.

  1. Actually OG has been adding his weapons in the last 3 years, such as attacking rims and passing skills. If he can stay healthy, he will have a better season this year. His potential is higher than FVV as Robert ranked him 3rd and FVV as the forth in the team. The biggest difference is FVV has more leadership skill and vocal than OG, but if you talking about basketball skills, no doubt OG is a better player.

  2. If we get Pre-Season Game 5 OG, consistently in 22/23 I will rate OG higher than Pascal. The problem is we cant see enough of OG, consistently. Showing up means something. Crossing my finger for OG. We need him healthy and aggressive.

  3. Totally agree with the overthinking part. OG can assert his will on pretty much any player/team. Finding that balance of assertiveness and when to facilitate within this starting lineup will take him to the next level.

  4. Hope OG stays healthy and gives Raptors their big 3. Pascal, Scottie and O.G. 3-20 point scorers would be hard to handle. Hope he gets his balance figured out hard to watch how such a strong man falls over so easily sometimes.

  5. Trade siakam for SGA? Free up the paint area for Barnes and OG, and reduce number of ISOs / ball stopping from Siakam.

  6. We have this same discussion every yr for OG. Problem is, with siakam and Fred taking up so much of the usage, players like OG and even Barnes will be limited. See the last pre season game with siakam out and Fred taking very few shots… og and Barnes both went off.

  7. You say he is a year away but how many players become first time all stars in year 7? Yeah he's 25 and when he enter year 7 he'll only be 26 but minutes in the nba matter too in terms of development. It's not just age. Og is a great player but to expect him to improve his handle and not have balance issues, and create at an all star level is too big of an expectation and could potentially set him up for failure. He's awesome as the player he is

  8. They need to give Boucher more time and he needs to put on a few more pounds

  9. Rob, would you consider some more collabs with other content creators? I’ve been enjoying your stuff alot and think mixing it up with other bright minds would generate premium ball talk.

Perhaps poll your viewers, but my vote would be a pod/vid with Samson Folk at Raptors Republic. He seems very knowledgeable, chill, yet articulate on the spot like yourself. Based on his collabs with media peeps from several other teams, he appears to be quite approachable.

Throwing in your style of level headed controversy (deliberate or not) would be worthy click bait backed by solid meat n potatoes. Either way, appreciate you engaging us in the comments, not sure where best to post suggestions like these.

  10. I think he's mostly the player he's going to be. Good starter/ good defender 3rd or 4th option. I'd just bring his minutes down to hopefully lower his injury risk. We have a lot of forwards!

  11. People forget Norman Powell was terrible driving to the hole and shooting 3s . We had to watch Norman missing for years to develop into who he became. Through reps .

  12. It seems like there might be unnecessary coexistence issues between OG and Pascal and Scottie, the two other players who seem to need a lot of touches (not to mention Gary). It's up to the Raptors coaching staff to put all these potential stars in a position to fulfill their huge promise. Nick Nurse needs to show more of the creativity that he's alleged to have.

  13. A timely topic.
So if your basically saying the way u interpret his stats, they dont tell the full story?
But from your visual observations, O.G. has, jumped another level again, this year , so there is a good chance, he not only has slown the game down in his head, he will start looking really good as a shot creator? Agree

And what looked like the awkwardness to a lot of raptors fans, you think, but not u, was really just a guy with the defensive build to be able to hold his own w much bigger centers? A guy who raptors desperately need that has the extra gift, over pascal, of being able to bump guys off their spot? More like kawhi perhaps? Agree.

So raptors fans shouldn't put so much effort on scotty As number 1 or 2 most discussed? Again Agreed.

Perhaps its better to put it this way. A lot of fans, more see our guys like a family.
    Not so much just pieces.
    Management is their home.
Scottie was the baby in the family, who we just recognized his potential. so he got lots of attention. But the other brothers, naturally realized that the attention wasnt going to be on them any longer?

The raptors develop talent. So some of us , realize trying to compare our team, and players, against other teams and players, is futile. Especially to americans. The rest of the world will more understand it. Escape is futile. 🙂 🙂 peace. Hahaha

We more trust in management, and watch the growth of each player, knowing and seeing it w our own eyes.
    It's almost like clockwork.
And the bubble wasnt a normal year.
So no sensible people discuss it, me thinks. 😉 😉

Go ahead. Pick a side. I dare u. Pick a side.

  14. Love your videos man!! Personally I am a very huge OG fan even though i know he's awkward on and off the court 😂

  15. OG is one of the more fascinating players in the league. A few things most that get overlooked are;

the fact that given his contract and his status as THE prototypical modern 3/D wing – he’s actually over performing pretty significantly for his circumstance.

the fact that he’s not had the benefit of playing with elite playmakers, which his skill set probably has sorely needed this whole time. Imo this is another hidden cost of FVV’s usage rate. He’s an OK passer, subpar playmaker/facilitator. Is it outlandish to say he’s an opportunity suck? He certainly is at his position, which is why no point guards stay or fit in here (Payne in particular was a silly loss for the program)

and the fact that OG is quietly a high-level clutch performer. Q1-3 OG and Q4 OG are not the same player. Q4 OG is remarkably locked in and dangerous down to the final seconds honestly. He’s got that gene, he’s the most reliable on our team in those moments and we should acknowledge that. If it’s an inbound play with the game on the line OG is the guy we ought to get a clean look for period.

Scottie and OG are the foundation of the program in my eyes. Precious is probably a future fringe all star. I like the promise of Banton and Koloko. And I’m willing to die on the Malachi Flynn hill, I think he’s the most underrated talent in the NBA right now and will leave and go make a career next to Luka or something stg. I’d prefer the Raptors just tear it down and build around these guys with better scorers. Great vid Rob

  16. Dedicate a film guy to analyze paint moves likely to draw fouls. Harden exploited this to the point where he caused rule changes. OG, Barnes, Precious and any of the skilled beefy guys that draw contact down low need this intel if it exists.

  17. Definitely agree and this gotta be the major perspective of og in the fanbase. Don't think anyone should be low on og. Og is sickk

  18. I agree OG has lots of potential. I hope Scottie and Pascal became better catch and shoot players to give OG more space to post up instead of being double teamed.

  19. I really think extra attention towards his footwork and balance would make a huge difference. Even though he played very well against the Celtics I still noticed some of his drives and fade-aways looking extremely awkward. I imagine his creation efficiency would increase if he found himself in better postures when pulling up for a shot or leaving the ground when heading towards the basket

  20. So it is fine to advocate for OG! I get that! But why trash Pascal? Was that necessary? Especially with a certain tinge to the criticism…

  21. I love what you said about Pascal in the bubble. It is 100% the case that the Raptors gave him the ball in Florida so that he could refine these skills. The whole idea of "reversion" was media bull. They had him working on new skills and that takes mistakes to achieve. Same as people hating on barnes right now. The only other person I have herd talk about that is greg from ghubbstown. everyone else just drank the koolaid. He said the same thing about the Scottie crap lately too.
OG rocks. good video. subbed. keep it up.

  22. OG’s performance in the last preseason game against Boston illustrates just how good he can be offensively when he’s the man (and Pascal is not on the floor or in the game). I know he’s an incredible defender, but I wouldn’t mind seeing him as a 6th man, spelling Pascal when he rests. He’d want the ball and you are not giving up too much offence when he’s going,

  23. Really enjoying the videos Robert, the analysis is always great and you only put out videos when there is something to say, making every single one worth watching.
I am curious to know what it is you pay attention to when trying to gauge how good a player is, both in terms of stats and watching them play. What advanced stats do you look for or avoid (or does it depend on x,y,z)? Thanks

  24. Nurse is OG's problem. I hope Nuse can manage OG's potential on offence this year but if he keeps locking OG into the D role, OG will pack up and leave.

  25. Great content as usual, my guy. His lock down defense isn't appreciated enough if he becomes a 3 level scorer I could see even a top 20 player. The highlight I don't know if you noticed, but jumped out at me during the game also was the tip out by Koloko and Scottie immediately was like go again, I think they are going to become a great one two punch together Scottie is showing signs of being a great leader early. just seems like it was a you got this go again moment

  26. your videos no-nonsense to the point.

I find them very educational, very actual a most of all realistic

  27. I saw someone with a sign at the Montreal game, "O.G." I think it was a nod to him clarifying that he wants it O dot G dot. I hope he saw it. His dry humor would appreciate that. 😁

  28. They been calling him the next Kawhi for last 5 years, great player but I think he might've hit his ceiling
