What do y’all think Nurse’s plan is with Banton? On the season so far he is averaging 8 minutes/game with an average +/- of -2.6 in such a short time. Is he set to take on a bigger role or ride the bench again this season?

  1. As much as we love him, he isn’t exactly above average on any basketball ability. He shooting is fine, but isn’t consistent and confident, his defense is sub par, his ball handling is pretty awful imo, his passing is not better than anyone else, so it’s hard to go “we need X, let’s put Banton it”. He needs at least this and next year to develop himself into something.

Second year of a long term project, so I get it. Them trying to bruteforce him into being a PG right now is roooough, I want to see him in more of a slasher and play finisher role (yeah, I know 90 percent of the team is that right now lol).

He’s not good. I’ll take the downvotes. Someone had to say it

His best skill is attacking the paint to create something and he doesnt do it in nba games.

He floats on the outside and does nothing most of the time. He is very timid. Cant remember exactly what game it was but him and precious played pass for a whole possession when it was like herro and strus guarding them.

I had hopes for banton but the game hasnt slowed down for him at all.

He’s not good enough to be a rotational guy now and tbh im not sure if he ever will be.

Proud of him being canadian and all but thats how i feel STRICTLY based on basketball

He’s just so medium – his ceiling is a mediocre bench player on a lottery team and he’s got a ways to go to hit that ceiling.

I don’t think Nick should depend on him as a lead guard in a lineup. Maybe his future is a perimeter defender and connector on offense and in a pinch, tertiary ballhandler. But he’s gonna need a 3 ball and really level up as a defender.

I think if you look at a lot of other teams you’d see players of his caliber on the bench. He’s mid, but a lot of bench players are.

  9. He hasn’t deserved more time. His play has been maybe the most disappointing thing to start the season. Banton really doesn’t look like a lead guard on offence at the moment. Maybe if his shot stabilizes as OK, he’ll be able to use that + defence and cutting to develop into a useful off-guard, but he really doesn’t look like even a bench 1 so far.

Banton right now has shown flashes but needs a year of development. His ceiling is probably being the long term back up point guard but he has some development to do. Development on his body and his overall skill set. The flashes are there the reads are there but he needs development time.

Even guys like Precious who have shown more consistent skill sets need more time. Precious next year compared to last year will be two completely different players. Koloko next year will be significantly better.

He’s bench for sure. He has grown enough for a significant role in an nba rotation yet. Remember, this was a deep 2nd round pick in his 2nd season. They shouldn’t be looking at him for significant minutes yet.

Raptors have a deep bench. Porter, achiuwa, koloko, Boucher…all easily ahead of him in the rotation.

Not a lot of opportunity unless their are more injuries. He needs to stay ready and bring defense and rebounding every time he sees the court.

He is a project. I was hoping he’d have a more consistent jumper because that is his easiest path to the floor, Nurse clearly likes him.

Even if his ceiling is rotation piece, that’s OK, it’s a very unique rotation piece to have.

He has made progress his handle and jumper look better but I suspect this will be another g league year for him.

  15. dalanofanclub

Just let him be the best raptors 905 player of all time

  16. Try to build him up a little bit more in the G-League?

Nurse will keep giving him minutes because of his length. Even if it doesn’t translate on the stat sheet with stocks. His defence is what is going to keep him in the lineup and he’ll get the opportunity to work on the rest of his game. He’s a capable ball handler and could develop into a reliable 3&D player. When I see the strides that Boucher and Precious have made bringing the ball up the court after a rebound and even taking it end to end with a euro, I have hopes that is what Banton can do as well.

he is nothing more than a catch and shoot guy that could play defense and run. not the player to create something for others which nick is usually making him do. when given the chance to create he always diverts to the next player to do something. he has the same ability to create for others as precious and gary. he’s gonna continue to get minutes just because he’s long
