Bite the bullet and trade Simmons for Draymond Green. Yes, it’ll suck watching Kenny Atkinson do an incredible 3-year salvage job turning Simmons into DPOY and triple-double machine—i.e. Draymond 2.0+++ for next-gen Dubs. But the grumpy creaky original gives Durant a better title shot this year.
More likely, Nets go out in Rd 1 or 2. But with Kyrie and Green both on expiring contracts, Nets are suddenly a Joe Harris trade away from near-max cap space this summer to find a younger, less deranged Durant co-star. If Tsai can sell KD on semi-punting this year—fire Marks if necessary!—he’ll be a huge draw for young free agents for years to come. His game will clearly age like Dirk or CP3 rather than Jordan/Kobe/LeBron—i.e. he can play till 40 w/o impeding anyone’s shine. (See Thomas, Cam.) Definitely not Durant’s Plan A (or B or C) but better situation than going to any team that guts itself to trade for him.
