[Pompey] Doc Rivers has one of NBA’s toughest jobs, shouldn’t be Sixers’ fall guy

  1. George Niang:

    >“Like we played 10 games and Joel has only been available for six of them,” Niang said. “So you have to give this stuff time. And he’s a Hall of Fame coach. He’s one of the best coaches of all-time.”

    >“I think in our locker room, we are all rallying around each other and how can we all be better to make each other better,” Niang said. “And I think Doc is a spearhead for that. He’s always been a team guy first since I’ve known him and since he’s coached me.

    >“I think that goes a long way more than people think. And I think it’s unfair for them to say that.”

Wonder how many other players on the sixers think this.

Let’s go we finally got the “firing Doc won’t fix anything” article that we can later reference after we fire him and immediately get much better

At first I thought he was purposefully describing last years roster with Simmons holding out to make a point about how they gave Doc everything he could ask for this year and he’s still underperforming.

Not at all the case, unfortunately. I can’t imagine how Pompey looks at himself in the mirror most days

In the 2021 playoffs, Doc’s team blew an 18-point lead in game 4, blew a 26-point lead in game 5, and then lost game 7 at home to bow out in the second round against a lower-ranked Hawks team. He then throws his all-star point guard under the bus for the loss. Regardless of whether it was deserved, it was poor management by a head coach and created drama that lasted well into the next season.

In the 2022 playoffs, Doc inexplicably played Embiid in garbage time of a game 6 blowout, and Embiid was injured. He missed the first two games of the next series. We lost each of those games and the series.

Now, this season, Doc’s already put Harden out for a month with injury by playing the 33-year-old with a recent history of muscular injuries the second-most minutes per game in the entire League.

Doc never should have survived last postseason. We shouldn’t even be having these daily conversations about him. Morey is either being stubborn or a coward for not firing him already.

And this is just a 20,000-foot overview of his tenure with the Sixers. Never mind the smaller details or his poor tenure with the Clippers.

Doc has ridden a reputation created by Garnett and Pierce so much farther than he ever should have. My goodness.

Well 8m a year he should be able fix it then….see how they look by January. If they miss the playoffs or get real bad, he’s gone. I don’t think any coach with Embiid, Harden and Maxey on the team should miss the playoffs. So long as they’re healthy most of year. There’s 72 games left. Lots time yet and I’m sure Morey and company have spoken to Rivers about what they plan on doing if shit goes south. He seems more interested other things other than fixing things on the team.

The team isn’t horrible but playing out of sync and had a lack of hustle. Which to me is coaching and preparing your team or at least getting them motivated in some way. Rivers doesn’t seem like he’s that guy or just lost it and that’s why most of us know a change is needed.

Plus that Harris contract is gross, which isn’t Rivers fault but Harris seems disengaged half the time too and complained about his role. So again, coaching issues with roles and plays. Hopefully Harris can be moved at the deadline or offseason. But I don’t think this team with Harris and Rivers is winning a chip.

Yea most nba coaches would dread having a generational talent at center, an elite floor general, an up and coming scoring star, and a deep bench.

Thank you Keith for making the Sixers equivalent to the Ken Rosenthal “Firing Girardi won’t do anything” article. Your service is appreciated
