Great find
I love vencenie, but I disagree with him that our issues are primarily a personnel issue, or that the team roster construction makes no sense. What makes no sense is our rotations (both minute distribution and who gets played together) and our offensive scheme.
We have a team that has multiple versatile forwards who can shoot and defend, we have multiple guards who are good at spot up threes, we have a center who is among the NBA’s elite in being able to create rim shots for himself and is an elite passer. We have several great offensive rebounders, we have several very aggressive and multi positional defenders. There’s nothing about all those ingredients that inherently doesn’t make sense.
What we need is a coach who is going to utilize Jabari as a movement shooter more. What we need is a coach who will start Eason and Sengun, and run the offense more through Sengun as a way to create easier looks for Green, Jabari and KPJ. What we need is a coach who won’t play drop coverage when we have a player at the five who is great at switching (Jabari, Garuba), and who will get our young wings to properly help on pick and roll coverage and learn how to get into rotation after helping.
This isn’t a playoff team no matter who the coach is. We don’t need to look like a garbage fire in order to tank, just having young guys will ensure that. But we need the young guys learning how to play efficiently, even in a losing season. Right now I worry they’re learning bad habits and complacency under Silas.
