Four years ago…. Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser sounded the alarm on the growing trend of athletes and former athletes amplifying conspiracy theories. Crazy to watch today in light of recent events.

for anyone wondering, this post is about Kyrie Irving

  2. barnorth

This aged extremely well, so much so it’s chilling

  3. nipppojgggvbjk

NBA went woke and it’s funny to see this league imploding

  4. TallanoGoldDigger

NBA players really going from being interviewed on ESPN to potentially being guests of Joe Rogan on his podcast lmao

  5. Poohbeantull

Steph curry but more so shaq both say stuff like this but only Kyrie gets hate

Shaq bashes Kyrie and it’s “common Shaq w” like y’all forget what this mf says sometimes lol

  6. Sweatytubesock

Dead-on. Fuck all of these people, and not just the athletes by a long shot.

  7. IAmNotKevinDurant_35

Steph apologized for saying that like immediately and made sure to have public discussions with astronauts on his instagram to teach his many impressionable followers (lot of kids worship steph) why that conspiracy theory was wrong.

Lumping him in with Kyrie is dumb as hell.

  8. DJBliskOne

NBA players are not very smart or educated. That is not their fault. Its our fault for expecting more out of them.

Edit: I still think they should be punished for being idiots.

This segment aged very well, but considering what we now know about Kyrie it’s sad hearing hopes from Michael Wilbon that he was just trolling about the flat earth:

    > “If this is a joke, if they’re just trolling people, because I believe Kyrie’s doing that – I feel certain that’s he’s doing that – and I think Steph’s doing that but…”

I listened to this 2 minute clip and got exhausted. How the fuck do you people keep watching these every day.

  11. As if these sports shows aren’t rooted in speculations with no source material just to push a narrative about players when there’s dry air time

  12. Kai__Winn

Man. I think it’s exaggerated. You can be a dumbass and believe in flat earth theory, that doesn’t always lead you to anti-semetism. I think flat earth theory is mostly harmless

Damn 4 years ago… unfortunately, rich and not well educated young men do believe a lot of conspiracies, although they are rich and have more than us regular joes will ever have. Having no real life experience, nowhere to put your energy and influence, and yes men around you, can be so damaging long term. Its why I believe players need to go work with communities and charities, and fight for a real cause outside of the game, like poverty and homelessness. I aint the biggest Bron fan, but having a school and fighting for the Cleveland community is inspiring

  14. xPeaWhyTee

Steph definitely did his part to walk back his statements and make amends for it. In retrospect I don’t like him being lumped in with Kyrie.

  15. DisasterPeace7

I love PTI one of the few things I actually still watch on ESPN, that being said y’all (and I don’t mean y’all specifically just the collective y’all), y’all wanted athletes to speak up more, doesn’t mean you’re always going to like what they say lol

  16. Paper_Okami

Most Celebrities are dumb as fuck, but their talent, fame, and wealth makes them think otherwise.

  17. i got a live chat notification today that’s exciting

  18. BaullahBaullah87

Whats worse is now if you don’t subscribe to offbase conspiracy bs, you’re also labelled as a corporate shill. Misinformation really has eroded at the fabric of our discourse the last 5 years

  19. Smellmyhand

Tony and Wilbon are the pinnacle of sports media. We need more like them or more of them

  20. StoneColdAM

NBA players don’t have to be social justice martyrs or some kind of miracle men that do everything right, but there is a basic decency that all people should have, and if these guys are making millions of dollars and having global influence, none of them should say nonsense like this. The league needs to drill this into all of their heads when they join. End of discussion.

  21. bobswowaccount

Imagine being the prospective medical student who got denied entry into Duke because they brought in Kyrie Irving…

  22. yngwiegiles

So people that are superior to us athletically are NOT superior intellectually?

  23. Atl-Fan_FTS

One of the few respectable sports shows on espn

  24. Snuggle__Monster

“It’s a very small step to becoming a holocaust denier or slavery denier.”

Tony fucking nailed it right there.

  25. Agreeable-Fig-1132

They are amplifying it by giving it more coverage than it needs to get. Clowns.

  26. MarkBellhorn1

Tony K is extremely smart. I know not everyone loves him but he’s one of the best people in sports right now.

  27. SpotLightGuy

This is thought police shit and anybody applauding this is a NPC full stop.

  28. GoDLY_PoWERFUL_MooN

These athletes are just like me fr, saying the dumbest shit for no reason.

  29. IversonsSleeve

Being called crazy for questioning the system…….sad

  30. licursi14

PTI is great. I remember this airing.

Curry quickly (I think the next day) walked back his statements and accepted NASA’s offer to tour Johnson Space Center. Curry made a mistake/said something without realizing the impact of his words, took responsibility and worked to fix his mistake. Props to Curry for all of that!

  31. Hot take: maybe we shouldn’t care so much what professional athletes believe.

  32. Autocrat777

Wilbon and Kornheiser are the best. They are the only reason I tune into ESPN.

These are the types of people that would keep a chunk of uranium in their home because they don’t “see” the radiation. The US has declined educationally faster than any country in the world.
