Frank Vogel appreciation thread

This man proved he could coach a top defense in the league albeit with a competent roster of 3&D players around LeBron and AD. But that was taken away from him when Klutch begged Rob to trade the core for Brick and sign a team full of G Leaguers and vetmins.

KCP, DG, Kuz, Dwight, Rondo and Caruso bought into Franks defensive system and it built an identity as a stalwart defense around LBJ and AD and a system of accountability.

Then, we got rid of all those players and gave someone who didn’t contribute to that chip, THT, $30 million. In addition, the front office gutted the roster three years in a row forcing Vogel to work around the clock and work with new rosters every off-season, essentially unpaid overtime.

  2. People forget that before the season Lakers were not considered a great defensive core. He got the best out of both great veterans rising to the challenge and underdogs like kcp caruso even kuzma. Him and his coaching staff did a great job that year. And FO butchered his staff, his roster and everything one by one and then nuked it with Westbrook deal.

I just appreciated his emotion and engagement on the floor, you can tell losing pissed him off.

I don’t think our awful season calls for a Frank appreciation thread. Not because we shouldn’t appreciate him, as he was a very likable coach who helped us win a championship, but we’d be losing all the same if he was still here.

While a lot of the blame goes on Rob over Frank, he didn’t really help himself with rotations and stubbornness over them last season.

At the end of the day both seasons are all on Rob and Jeanie. They created this mess, and even though LeBron and AD also wanted Russ, at the end of the day the front office and ownership ultimately make the deal. Stronger leadership would have tried to convince both stars that we’d be losing too much depth in trading for Russ.

Instead, they were spineless and both are star f’ers. It’s extremely unfair of them to fully blame LeBron/AD for the trade, and if they’re being stubborn with making roster changes right now to “prove a point” to LeBron and AD then they should both just F off because that’s not how you work this situation. What’s going on now looks awful to other stars who might not take a meeting with you when the time comes. Hey, we’ve been there before since Dr. Buss passed!

I will say one thing about Franklin Delanor Vogel though – during the championship season and the season after when given a real roster he was always great at taking out the opposing team’s best player. Fox wouldn’t have gone off to the extent that he did if Frank was here.
Anyway, TLDR – Neither Frank nor Darvin are really at fault as much as Jeanie and Rob are.

Is it just me or would Vogel have done better with this roster? Hard to imagine us starting 2-10 with him.

He was here last year doing the same thing so…

Vogel got more out of a worse team last year. Hopefully Ham can get our guys to be more successful soon.

Yeah his lineups weren’t good last year but it’s impossible to make good rotations when almost everyone outside of Lebron and AD wasn’t even an nba level player. There’s a reason why many of the players on last year’s roster are out of the league right now.
