Amongst all defenders that have at least contested 250 shots, Kevin Durant is the only defender keeping opponent to under 40% fg.

To give this list some context, draymond is #2 in this stat.

Durants defense has always been underrated in his career. He’s also 6th in total blocks.

This video gives a breakdown of his defense this season.

Who else is an underrated defender in your opinion?

**Edit: I’d like to correct the stat, it’s not contested but being the closest defender to atleast 250 shots**!

Durant’s Dfg% is 41.3%.

Oh it’s a graveyard already here

Anyways yeah I support this narrative.

Is he better than the bald guy on the Suns though?

  4. I think the league leaguer in contests per game is like 11. How many people could have 250 at this point

  5. Man is about to the lose the only ring he’s ever had

Reminds me of that time Davis Bertans was the greatest shooter in NBA history

  7. I can’t even say his defense is underrated anymore. We all know he’s elite on both sides of the ball.

NBA tracking data has been known to be iffy and all over the place, so it may not even be the most accurate thing to begin with.

In addition to this, it isn’t good to compare DFG% between totally different positions. A perimeter defender will on average have a lower DFG% than a center, because the center is defending a lot more high percentage shots at the rim, and they are also playing help defense frequently in disadvantaged positions. So a big will naturally be allowing higher DFG%. A perimeter player mostly defending long mid range shots and 3s, will typically allow a lower raw DFG%, because they are defending more lower percentage shots on average than a big who is covering up for layups and dunks right at the rim.

love me KD but can we talk about the dpoy defence the entire mod team is playing at rn. Wont let folks post about a certain player lmfao

Durant has been incredible this year. They should have lost the last game with how bad their rebounding was, but KD was just so good on both sides. Kyrie also looked like he finally started shaking out the rust.

That said, AD is DPOY so far. He has been insane covering 5 positions and dominating the boards. When he was out for a game with the Spurs it became an ABA game. Straight up no defense.

  11. FYI : dFG% has been proven to be a completely meaningless stat over the course of a full season. It’s double meaningless over 20.

He’s also not defending the other team’s best player in most situations. That’s why his DRAPTOR isn’t super high, even though his DFG% is very good.

But apparently KD doesn’t care about defense and doesn’t try at that end of the court.

He’s playing this elite defense while being the second most efficient 30PPG scorer in the league (only second behind Curry) all while having his team above .500 despite his costars barely playing.

He should pretty easily be a Top 3 MVP candidate at this point.
