Boston Celtics try too hard in Golden State, get bad case of deja vu in loss

The Celtics didn’t look great in Golden State. In fact, they look a lot like they did at the end of the Finals, but Jaylen Brown admitted that they played tense and like they had this game circled for a long time. Jayson Tatum had maybe his worst game of the season, but John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal thinks they tried TOO hard, and fell into some bad habits that cost them (except for Brown, who was awesome). Also, Joe Mazzulla’s insistence on playing Blake Griffin and their drop coverage was a problem.

  1. Sounds like a lot of Copium. Warriors reminded the league they still the Champs. They trying to integrate the young guys into the system. Better to have bad games early in season than late. Remember the Celtics were .500 last year at this time and the Dubs were 21-6.

  2. People got remember that Golden State has the best home wrecking and the NBA but they can't win on the road

  3. Tatum flat out played scared and had no plans to attack the rim. Dude either has to attack the rim or figure out this midrange jumper/floater. Jayson was the only one who didn’t show up man tbh everybody else was clicking in the first half only being down 5 but Tatum just sucked. When he has to play in tight spaces he starts bricking shots.

  4. Tatum can't be considered MVP when he does this kind of disappearing act during games like this. I saw no difference between this allegedly improved team fighting the warriors and the one from the finals.

  5. That was a bad showing. Outcoached, outplayed and out grinded…. It look like the same team of the lost a finals they should have won…. It makes me wonder, are they still that team?

  6. It's pretty obvious that the Celtics have PTSD from the Finals. The team is still bothered by the loss.

  7. It is one loss. GS is still not right either. They play Milwaukee Tuesday, and the narrative can change quick. Boston wins Monday and the loss to GS is a blip.

  8. Tatum can only play easy team. He takes credit for Brown's success. Brown is mvp

  9. I think it was the unfocused Mental and lack of pain offense that ruined lost them the game before it even started they bricked up too many 3’s and absolutely forgot about midrange and post scoring

  10. Celtics looked weak and timid and resorted to the 3 point arch the whole game with very few cuts in the paint especially when the bricks 🧱 were obvious but they just throwing more bricks after bricks instead of pounding the paint

  11. I keep saying JB is mentally and physically ready to take on that Warriors challenge but y’all just keep gassing JT up only to be deflected when the air gets hot he seems to become a shell stuck unable to raise to the occasion of champ

  12. That’s the key to beating GSW Midrange & Post Paint action not 3 pointers.. We can’t beat them @ what they do best via 3’s.. The way is to pound the paint and get them frustratedly in foul troubles and not bail them out most of the game trading long range missiles.. No foul troubles mean GSW can be most aggressive on defense in clutch moments for the opponent and the referees will allow them to swarm//hack // claw than call fouls on the other team when we return aggression on GSW🤷🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

  13. It is so hard listening to these podcasts after a loss but we are like an online family and going through this together ❤

  14. JT was too much inside his head, nerves as someone else mentioned. But Jaylen pulled his weight. 31 / 9 / 3. Pts / R / A. Curry 32 / 6 / 7. Thompson 34 / 5 / 2.

  15. Why start Grant and Blake? Derrick White has played excellent as a starter, stats-wise. Grant not so much. Warriors started Poole, so the Cs could have gone smaller too. Correct me if I'm wrong, the Warriots starters sat the game before the Cs game. Celtics coming off of 3 straight road wins vs legit playoff teams.

  16. Y'all looked at the record and thought this wasn't the same team. At the top of the rotation it 100% is the same team, as for the rest it was rough early but they are figuring a lot of it out.

  17. too many one pace shots!!!They are at their best when tatum and brown are moving the valk and letting game cine back to them that being said big difference from lst year is i wasnt worried at any point of game except torwards the end of 4th! Curry was making everything Clay had great game! we were missing shots and still were withing striking distance of them most of game

  18. its another case if maturity! When tatums been at his best this year is realizing when his shots off and finding other ways to win!

  19. I listen after every tough loss and every great win no matter what I'm listening to lock on Celtics

  20. Brown and Brogdon are the only ones who took this game seriously. There were reports they were laughing and joking around before the game. That Garrett mentality is missing. I don't see them winning a championship. They are just like the Suns. A lot of regular season wins and second round exit

  21. It's one loss yes. But against the team that won a championship on their court and supposedly gave them sleepless nights. And this is how they play. They just don't have what it takes. And that's that

  22. That wasn't an aberration for Tatum at all. It's all mental. The Warriors are in his head. You can tell by him missing that many free throws

  23. For top tier teams like these two, regular season games are literally meaningless. Just don't get hurt or worn out, and maybe we'll see you in the playoffs again, hopefully with healthy rosters, including both Rob Williams and Andrew Wiggins. I love watching those two guys.
