[The Dallas Morning News] Mark Cuban: Mavericks would have 5 more wins if not for unprecedented free throw struggles

Although Cuban’s comments about the free throws are not wrong, they deflect responsibility from himself. As the franchise owner, Cuban should, imo, talk more about how HE ought to make the team better. No matter how horrible the free throw percentage, the players publicly own that. In contrast, while it seems painfully clear to most fans and some media that Cuban shirks his responsibility as franchise owner, Cuban shifts the narrative focus back to on-court performance. Instead, Mr. Cuban, why not plan for impactful trades, hire competent draft personnel, and hold Kidd responsible for drawing winning clutch plays?

We would have 10 more wins if this roster wasnt built by blindly throwing a dart at a board with names on it

  2. Most of our players are bad free throw shooters, so we’ll always have bad ft%.

“Our improved free throw shooting is just as good as a trade!” -Mark when the team does nothing at the deadline

Mark Cuban: Mavericks would have 5 more wins if not for the unprecedented poor free throw shooters we close out games with due to poor roster construction on mine and Nico’s part and/or a more capable and creative coach to draw up plays that get the ball in the hands of our best shooters

    Fixed that for you Cubes

    That’s crazy because

Mavs would be an actual contenders if they had a competent owner

You want Cuban even more involved with decision making than he already is? Please no

I honestly don’t understand what point you’re trying to make with this. We are in the middle of the season, why would Cuban be talking about personnel moves and trades to the media?

    >hire competent draft personnel

We drafted Brunson and Hardy in the 2nd round and Josh Green looks like a core piece which is great value at the 18th pick. I don’t see how drafting has been our problem. It is incredibly easy to criticize the job Cuban has done since we won the title but can we at least bring some thought and context when talking about the specific problems this team has?

Ima give an unpopular take but, honestly it’s not cubans fault. I concede the point that he can be way too hands on but I honestly believe he gives Kidd and Nico plenty of room to work independently from him. He may be very vocal and opinionated but I don’t believe someone with as many responsibilities as he does is focusing that much of his time on bball everyday. The man is fighting against big pharma, doing TV shows for shark tank and is involved in so many other business. He def loves basketball and the mavs is probably his greatest joy but at the end of the day, he is not managing everything in his organization. We honestly had a long string of bad luck regarding drafting and trading during luka’s tenure as a Mav. Luka got way too good way too soon, KP trade really fucked us over, we fucked up during the 2020 draft and could have possibly traded our 2 2nd round picks for bane or someshit, and JB Contract was severely mishandled. No one else on this team is remotely as good as luka because we don’t have the assets to get better players.
