Toronto Raptors suffer two worst losses of season to Orlando Magic; what's the root of the problem?

In Episode 1299, Sean Woodley is joined by Vivek Jacob (Raptors.com) to break down the Toronto Raptors’ back-to-back losses on the road to the Orlando Magic to fall to 13-14 on the season. Off the top, Sean and Vivek dig into their big takeaways from the weekend, why the team’s lack of night to night consistency is more worrying trend than concering oddity at this point, and what the true root cause of the team’s recent poor play is. Next, they dig into what types of players the Raptors should consider targeting as trade season unofficially begins on December 15th, and at which point it becomes a necessity to make a move and not just a nice way to add to the roster. Plus, how much blame rests at the feet of Raptors head coach Nick Nurse? Lastly, Sean and Vivek run through the Good (Gary Trent Jr.’s overall play, Pascal Siakam taking Friday’s game by the horns), the Bad (Scottie Barnes taking a step back after a nice stretch, Chris Boucher’s quietly damaging weekend) and the Hmm (Khem Birch showing out, the league moving towards a Raptors-like roster build, but bigger) to close out the show.

  1. This sky is falling mentality of the media has got to stop. The matchups are important, styles make fights we don't match up well with the magic. The Celtic the best team in the league lost to the magic and Hornets. When were back fully health we will be ok.

  2. I know it’s easy to discount a team with a losing record but the Magic are in the upside of a rebuild that many NBA watchers have been talking about.

There are bad teams where you can predict a Raptor win with certainty but the Magic isn’t one of them. All of their 8 wins have come against teams with a better record and most are above .500.

The Raptors will have a chance to even the series on Valentines Day. It should be fun!

  3. These guys can't shoot consistently. They must be the league leaders for dry runs. Worst 1/2 court offense in NBA

  4. To succeed, the Raptors must put in huge, sustained defensive efforts to make up for their lack of offensive talent. At some point the management and coaching have to get serious about the offence.

  5. can sean for once not be upbeat sarcastic acting a fool and downplay how bad the raptors are. like dude seriously everyone else is really starting to question this team moving forward and he gives out are excuses and keeps trying to be positive it's really annoying and cringe to watch.

  6. Depending on siakam to bail us out or win games just isn't a winning strategy. Guys are just standing around. Why? I think it's because cutters and off ball movement aren't properly being rewarded for doing those things. Offense looks the best when a guy like Thad is making passes from the post or scotty to cutters or guys running off screens to open spots. Waiting for siakam to take a shot or be forced to pass at the end of the clock to force a bad shot isn't going to work. Nurse is losing the locker room because he refuses to criticize fred or bench him, but he has no problem doing this to anyone else on the team. If you don't hold fred accountable, it's going to continue to hurt the rest of the team.

  7. It's hard to win when you start a midget at pg who has the worst fg% in the nba and takes 15 shots per game.

  8. 10-3 may mean we’re not a “bad” team, but 3-11 on the road means we are not a contender. With the way the east is built up now and for the next few years coming, we’re not in that top 4. Sure we can try to swing for the fences and get a “star” and deplete our already depleted depth, im in the corner where in the next month if we are not Atleast 3/4 games over .500, we should have a fire sale and try to offload contracts for young guys that have potential and picks
