Curry had a pretty tame night against the Bucks last night but it falls into a quiet pattern of the team defending him, or at least limiting his scoring, very successfully in the Budenholzer era.
The Bucks are 5-3 over the Warriors in that period that includes a win early in the 2020-21 season where the Warriors had underperformed – so this hasn’t translated to a particularly dominant record, and it’s clear the Bucks have given up some things elsewhere (notably a loss in a game where Curry recorded a Draymond-esque 8/5/8 line but Klay had 38).
The game where Curry scored over 20 was an extremely efficient 41 point game on 21 shots where the Warriors won by one.

His TS% is always going to be high because of his 95% FT shooting.
His shooting splits: 43% FG and 34% 3PT. 5.3 APG and 3 TOs as well. Definitely not up to his standards. Brogdon/Bledsoe/Carter/Jrue are pretty good Curry defenders and then you have Giannis/Lopez behind them.
We need a Bucks vs Warriors Finals matchup to settle this
Pretty wild that even when he struggles his TS is still well above average for the position.
I feel like Steph was pretty quiet vs. Bucks before 2018, I don’t think he ever had a 30+ point game vs. Buck before that point. Bucks fans have only ever seen Steph go off vs. them maybe twice in his career iirc.
He has still had good games as a facilitator and forcing traps when KD was there though.
Giannis not amazing offensively against the warriors by his standard either: 54.9% TS% 26 ppg 11 rpg 5.1 agp 3 TO
Also curry didn’t play against bucks in 2019 when they lost, and the warriors were in a tank year.
Well, two things:
* Bucks always had a nasty perimeter defense with the likes of Bledsoe, Holiday, Carter, etc.
* Another big correlation is that Draymond Green during the same stretch has only played the Bucks with Curry once during the stretch OP mentioned prior to last night. That one time you ask? The 41-point game OP referenced.
Edit: Don’t know why I’m getting downvoted. Curry’s shooting being better with Draymond Green has been a clear-cut correlation for a while now.
the bucks are a really bad matchup for the warriors. they don’t have a ton of big bodies to throw at giannis and build a wall, which is THE strategy to beating milwaukee (along with limiting turnovers to prevent the bucks from getting into transition). the bucks also have a great paint defense, and penetrating / getting to the rim is a also a huge part of the warrior’s identity.
it kinda is what it is, the warriors will still probably be great if they’re healthy going into the postseason. they’ll just definitely be rooting for anyone other than milwaukee to come out of the east lol. the are other western conference teams that would definitely rather play milwaukee than a team like boston who spreads the floor and everyone can switch. depends on the personnel.
People saying Warriors would have beaten the Bucks in the finals cos they’d eat up our drop coverage and they got too much shooting when even Steph hasn’t shown that in the regular season in recent years let alone their role players. On the other hand nobody on that team is guarding Giannis for a series
Not a big game guy. Never was
This Bucks team has great guards to chase Steph around. Jevon, Holiday, Wisconsin’s Own Wes Matthews, Old Man George Hill for spurts and even Grayson Allen do a good job hounding him. Plus Middleton is actually really good at navigating off ball action. Last night it felt like the Warriors having always having at least one but often two of JaMychal Green, Kevon Looney, Jonathan Kuminga, or Draymond Green on the court just let Lopez and Giannis play clean up for any daylight the guards give up.
How do they do it?
> The game where Curry scored over 20 [against the Bucks] was an extremely efficient 41 point game on 21 shots where the Warriors won by one.
Holy shit this sentence out of context has a lot to unpack.
