Many will cite his departure, and internal politics(*cough, nepotism, cough*) played a strong role in it. But the real issue is that Hinkie’s regime failed to draft players.(other than Joel.). I mean, it took Jerami Grant a few years to become who he’d become(and that’s why I don’t want to give up youth for nothing.)
But other than that, the guy’s draft record is worse than Isiah Thomas’s. I don’t care if ownership is pushing you, if you know Jahlil’s not the guy, you tell them flatly: We’re not going there.
Who cares if KP said he wasn’t going to report, sue his ass until he does. Hitting on that pick was so crucial. Devin Booker and Myles Turner were also in that draft class.
Just so many missed opportunities that Hinkie could have controlled.
