Tatum, Giannis, and Luka sit atop first NBA MVP straw poll for 2022-23 | NBA | FIRST THINGS FIRST

Nick Wright, Chris Broussard, and Kevin Wildes discuss the first NBA MVP straw poll of the 2022-23 season. Broussard weighs in on the poll and explains he really likes Jayson Tatum, but believes Giannis Antetokounmpo is the true MVP because he has been playing without key pieces while the Milwaukee Bucks are only 1.5 games behind the Boston Celtics in the Eastern conference. The group then discuss the remainder of the list and debate where they would make adjustments.

  1. in no order but it should be tatum mitchell and ginnase, i dont think people are noticing how great and consistant mitchell has been all season. Hes literally torching every team and winning more than any of those guys besides tatum and giannis.

  2. Nick says giannis has more points and rebounds than tatum and tatum has a better team so giannis is more impressive, then says jokic is more impressive this season than last because even tho his numbers were better last year the team wasnt good. Almost like when your team isnt as good you put up stronger individual stats🤨? See kevin love in Minnesota or shai this year

  3. Nick's idea of defense is only block shots so if you are built less taller and bigger in nba and does other kinds of defense like the defensive player last year Smarts, tatum, kwahi, those are irrelevant for him.

  4. Ridiculous that jokic got 1 1st place pt. And i'm not even a nuggets fan. Voters' fatigue most definitely.

  5. PER – Jokic, AD and Luka
    WS – AD, Jokic, Luka
    VORP – Luka, Jokic, Curry
    BPM – Jokic, Luka, Curry

    NO Tatum and Giannis!

  6. Voter fatigue is real, Jokic has been as good as anyone but they refuse to acknowledge it because he won the last two.

  7. Jayson Tatum right now is the MVP like we not about to do this. I get the Kris Middleton argument but Giannis is putting up those numbers whether that man is on or off the court, they really don’t need Middleton until the playoffs. Tatum is leading his team to the best record in the NBA and his numbers are similar to Giannis and I hate the Celtics but you gotta respect and reward what Tatum is doing right now

  8. It amazes me that Giannis is always in the top 3 MVP every year. Last years’ MVP race was completely different with Jokic/Embiid in the top 3. Giannis is just a constant every single year. It’s inevitable he’s going to win 1 or 2 more MVPs given his age.

  9. We critize someone for having help and criticize somone for having not enough help. Most valuable player means who is most valuable to their team. Take off each superstat and see what their record is and then tell me who the most valuable player is. I believe it jokic. I may be wrong but thats what i see

  10. Jokic last year too does not have any help and nick says he did not deserve it

  11. “Obviously I’m voter” 💣😂 Chris killin’ it with that quote 😅

  12. I like to hear Nick's takes, but his constant interruption during Bru's are starting to wear me out. It's driving me on the verge of totally tuning this show off.

  13. Giannis is not the best defender in the league, they have to stop saying that. That’s a narrative that keeps getting pushed and idk why

  14. I agree with the jokic hater. he shouldn't have won it last year because of team record. And he has a stronger case for it this year.

  15. Nick Wright saying that Giannis has “more this, more that” and acknowledges that Tatum has a competent running mate in Brown that is scoring 27 a game, and still asks Tatum to dominate the ball more. That’s pretty idiotic when it comes to having a competent, succeeding team that works as constructed, you want Tatum to have better numbers than Giannis in that system for him to beat out Giannis for MVP, what kind of sense does that make?

  16. The first 2 also play good defense! Luka, Jokic are weak in defense, especially lateral quickness. Ja Morant plays good defense and offense, just had a triple double agains the Bucks and leads a 7 game winning streak and top of the western conference.

  17. Giannis gets far too much credit for his defense. He plays hard and he’s a great weak side defender but he’s not a lockdown one on one defender. Tatum does a way better job on KD than Giannis ever does
