I haven’t been following it the way I’ve wanted to – but how has Malaki looked so far?

Early on he was extremely passive, and I’m hoping that he might have turned a corner?

I really loved our draft haul coming out of the draft and I feel the same way now.

I know some people were getting a bit worried about Malachi, but I think with how smooth he looks sometimes and just how dominant he was in a talented conference, it’s easy to forget that he’s just as young as Jeremy, and a bit of a late bloomer himself.

Even when his shot wasn’t falling you could see the kid has a high offensive IQ of knowing where to be and how to get himself open. The assertiveness and confidence obviously has been a bit of an issue but whatever pop told him the last couple of weeks. Hopefully he keeps channeling that because if he does I don’t see any reason he doesn’t become a really solid shot maker sooner than later. I really hope they find ways to continue getting him minutes when Richardson Comes back. He’s exactly the type of player our bench guys need to be playing with.

As far as Wesley is concerned, the sample size was really small, but I never in a million years expected him to look as poised as he did in his very brief cameo early in the season. I liked the pic but also very confidently felt he was one of the least ready to contribute players taken in the first round. He’s just really nothing but instincts right now. Uber raw.

An absolute crying Shame he went down with injury and we haven’t had a chance to see how sustainable it was. If he can even be 85% of what he was in that week-long came out the rest of the season. He will be well along the way, and ahead of schedule, on potentially being a very dynamic slashing point guard prospect. The guys ridiculous with his quickness and change of pace. The Spurs shooting staff is going to probably have their hands full between him and Jeremy, but he’s a project Definitely worth investing in. I still argue he has the highest ceiling of any player taken out of the top ten in this year’s draft.

And of course, I don’t really need to gush too much about Jeremy since I feel like 75% of my posts are pretty much that at this point. The dudes just a stud defensive prospect. I’ve read a lot of critical takes on him recently on this sub and in the NBA sub that are direct overreactions from the one-handed free throw thing and a very common point brought up. Is that shooting is the most important skill in the league And that you can’t be a high impact player without it. This is true to an extent.

However, what’s also one of the most valued attributes in the modern day league is defensive versatility. In some cases, it’s maybe even more important than the ability to stretch the floor. The ability to essentially play modern teams into oblivion, switch everything and cause all kinds of chaos through the use of players who are long and big enough to tangle in the front court, but quick enough to thrive on the perimeter, is maybe one of the most in demand skill sets in the league.

And this kid has the potential, and in some cases already is, one of a select handful who actually can be true one through five defenders at a high level. We don’t even really need him to be an elite shooter. Frankly, not even a good shooter. If he can just become an average and passable threat from the perimeter, his impact is going to be huge.
He’s a fun kid, he works hard, and he’s farther along as a playmaker and ball handler. Then I expected. His jump shot is frankly even more broken than I thought, but the fact that the dude is probably the worst shooter in the league who’s actively taking them, and still finds very tangible ways to contribute and stay on the court says a lot. I just absolutely love him as a prospect.

A lot of people have put a lot of pressure on how ping pong balls fall this spring. And there’s no denying a bit of good, or bad, fortune There could have huge ramifications on the next 5 years of this team’s trajectory

But low key, how this draft group develops could be just as important and vital to the future of the franchise. All three of these guys have very high ceilings (if not plenty of pitfalls that may obstruct reaching out) and if San Antonio can coax the max potential out of one or two of them, it would shoot the rebuild into the stratosphere.
