[Buha] The Lakers don’t believe there is a trade presently available that will immediately turn them into a contender, especially when factoring in the likelihood that Davis will miss a few weeks at a minimum.

>The Lakers don’t believe there is a trade presently available that will immediately turn them into a contender, especially when factoring in the likelihood that Davis will miss a few weeks at a minimum.

>From the Lakers’ vantage point, the downside to making the wrong deal is potentially having to reload the roster by trading future first-round picks down the road. They don’t want to dig themselves into a deeper depth and long-term asset hole. The biggest swing factor will ultimately be which teams decide to become sellers; as of now, there aren’t many teams who seem willing to part with starting-caliber veterans.

  1. I would have to agree with the lakers on that one

  2. sheeeeeez

Welcome to reality, Lakers front office. We’ve all been waiting for you.

  3. Apart-Cucumber-7090

    LeBron’s not that dude anymore

He’s turned into an inefficient stat ladder who doesn’t play defense

  4. NitroXYZ

Can we stop talking about this 13 seed pile of garbage?

Do we need an article saying that the Detroit Pistons don’t have a trade lined up to turn them into a contender?

  5. YouKnowIt-IKnowIt

Well no shit. As long as 🧱 and his contract is on this team, there’s no way to make us contenders

  6. Calm-Cry4253

The Lakers aren’t good. Stop giving them press and attention. Move on. It’s not 2000 anymore

  7. TheSmokedSalmon420

LeBron AD and Westbrook not being a contender is the real story here

  8. onamonapizza

I, also, don’t believe there is an investment available that will immediately turn me into a billionaire. Especially considering that I have like $100 in the bank.

Can’t wait for the same report tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that, and every day until the trade deadline and even after.

  10. AlwaysOptimism

They should tank. They should tank next year too. Just to make sure.

  11. BusiestWolf

The Westbrook trade really fucked them over for 2 years and at the worst possible time with LeBron nearing 38 and there’s legitimately just no way around it than to wait things around till after it his contract expires at the end of the year. Their priority should be trying to acquire a late first with some expirings to use in a trade as opposed to using the 2027 or 2029 picks similar to how the Raptors offered them one and Khem Birch last year for THT.

  12. Schizophrenia22

2 years wasted. Nepotism is a tumor on this org.

  13. DireBlue88

Can they at least commit to more conditioning for Anthony Davis?

  14. OkBarber6

People will clown them (deservedly so) but this is the right decision from an organizational standpoint. It’s just unfortunate they lied to lebron to get him to sign the extension.

  15. Itowndub36

Fakers are trash. Worst delusional fan base in sports also.

  16. Particular_Ad_9531

Still can’t believe LeBron signed that extension.

  17. Skrimpcitty

Why won’t they trade lebron to a contender for picks? I’m so confused, that wins the situation for everybody.

  18. DubsFanAccount

Is that trade Steph Curry or KD? Otherwise I agree.

  19. behappysometimes

I can think of so many trade scenarios that would absolutely make them contenders and help them tread water until AD is back. This is just a lazy, posturing front office.

    edit to include possibilities:

I will list a number of players below that the Lakers have more than enough assets to acquire, and the $65M in expiring contracts they have at their disposal is also extremely enticing to any team. Those 2027 and 2029 picks are also going to be some of the best picks down the line considering how garbage this team will be by then.

Turner, Hield, PJ Washington, Hayward, Rozier, Oubre, Gary Trent Jr, the entire Toronto roster aside from Siakam and maybe OG tbh, Reddish, Eric Gordon, the entire Atlanta roster excluding Trae and Dejounte that’s destined to be blown up any day now, the entire Bulls roster except maybe DeRozan, Beal because of how bad his contact is, Kuzma, Bojan, Christian Wood, Poetl, Richardson, and Utah will likely have a fire-sale at some point too. Literally so many options, this front office is just dogshit and uncreative.

  20. Calexander3

LeBron signing that extension likely took away his last chance to get another ring. Keeping his family in LA must’ve weighed heavily on that decision. I’m guessing it outweighed winning.

  21. chickenripp

I’m glad they have caught up to what we have know for a year

  22. Forward_Kitchen_2012

Lakers goal is to lead people on long enough until the season is over. They lowkey don’t wanna do anything this season

  23. louisseakay

Just let the big man rest for ‘23.

Get the bad contracts off the books & be teddy for ‘24

  24. nice_kitchen

People can “lol 13-18” if they want, but I’d still take a chance on these guys. AD is a top tier guy, Lebron is still an all nba guy, and Reaves is a legit role player. Each of those first rounders could be flipped for a starter. The guys they have starting now could be alright bench guys.

They have 3 more losses than the 7 seed with 50 games to go. I’d gamble on it, and the guys you trade for you’d presumably keep next year too. Some continuity would be nice.

  25. UrbanJatt

Heild, turner, two firsts is the new tt, shump. 8th pick

  26. Organic_Extreme_6671

LeBron to the Kings for Keegan, Davion, Holmes, Barnes, and 3 firsts.

  27. Astro_Flame

there isn’t, they are very far away from being a contender. too much money on the books from Russ and Bron and AD is guaranteed to miss chunks of the season. two of their starters and none of their role players are consistent contributors.

  28. StoneColdAM

This is a self-fulfilling prophecy. They don’t make any meaningful moves in the summer, hampering the team. Then halfway through the season and with AD being hurt, they then say there’s nothing they can do to fix the team.

It seems pretty clear the Lakers front office never wanted to do anything this year. Why? I’m not sure, maybe to save money? The team’s image is the worst it’s been probably since moving to LA. It’s one thing to suck when you’re full of young guys and have all your picks. It’s another to go from contender to garbage when you still have stars on the roster.
