Wood is not a problem of this team..the real problem.of this team is Jason Kidd & a bunch of low caliber & inconsistent players around Luka..that makes this team sucks & trash team in nba
Tanking is never gonna happen with Luka. He will request a trade even if that is brought up. I think we should sell a bit like Powell it we can and set up for a great off season next year. But Luka has a shot against anyone in the playoffs never count him out.
Mavs just need to keep looking for players that other teams no longer want for whatever reason. Dinwiddie and Wood are evidence that value can be found, and then retaining them for value.
The toughest challenge the Mavs have right now is to dump underperforming contracts.
Mavs need to extend Wood at all cost. They already let go of JB.

Tanking is a sure-fire way to piss Luka off. People calling for tanking are so lame and cringey. Quitters.
The payroll is 174mil if you give Wood 25 million it Will be 190 like warriors. Next year Josh Green extension is coming.
You don't win championship giving players like Brunson or Wood 25million.
They are waiting the bad contracts to expire and prepare for 2024 season.
To elaborate and add to Isaac's stand further in comparing other teams who rebuilt to Dallas, we have Luka as our #1 option, DFS an undrafted 3 and D guy who is a good starter, a developing Jossh green who Dallas picked at #18 and Jaden Hardy, who everyone here is excited to see how he will fare, a 2nd round pick. Now we just have to look for that CJ Mc Collum trade.. most likely a 4-5 that can play well with Luka and who can cover Dallas' rebounding and post defense weakness, that future Brook Lopez of Dallas.
Luka is only valuable thing in Dallas, rest are not even trade assets, wood have some value

Wood is a potential All Star and has great chemistry with this team. Mavs should definitely offer a good contract.

Going a little offtopic here: With all the discussions around the team i just looked at the games they lost this season and counted the losses against significantly worse teams or teams without their stars. It was 6 – if viewed conservatively. If you take these 6 games and say, under normal circumstances they should have won 3 of these – they would be at 19 – 13, tied with the Suns for 4th in the west. Am I oversimplifying things here? Or would it be ok to say that the main problem the Mavs have to solve in the regular season is the problem of motivation and effort when facing weaker teams?
Stop aquiring and start developing, developing and again developing. Wood is a project, an excellent development project. He's got all the talent in this world, defence is 80% effort and 20% development. Get to work and develop him. Dallas has been trying to aquire a second star for 20 years. And how is this been going? All the valuable pieces they have (and always had), have been developed inhouse instead of bought. This is what they're good at. And rule nr.1 of success has always been, exploit what you're good at. Dorian, Maxi, Josh, Spencer, Jalen,… these are all development projects. And it's all this team has. Even Luka. Yes he's a once in a 20 years talent, but there is still no warranty, if you don't develop him in the right way. And they did that perfectly as well. So for me, it's a no brainer. Stop chasing stars and get to work. Extend Wood and develop his defensive game. Everybody can become solid on defence. He doesn't need to get good, just solid. And this is achievable. If you let him go, what are your options? Wait for another free agent window? How many more are necessary? Same thing with Hardy. Work, work and more work.
If there is anything history has taught us, there is no shortcuts (unless you're the Lakers). Especially in Dallas.
