When he had 4 straight epic failures guarding Luka doncic I was really impressed by the coaching adjustment that Darvin ham made by continuing to have Westbrook give up easy baskets to him. Gotta hand it to Westbrook that he went on to give easy baskets to everyone else he guarded after that, just real consistency

The plus-minus in a game like this is misleading because the Mavs started making every 3 in the third quarter and we can’t blame that on Russ or any one player.
Overall, he was fine. No turnovers. Shot 40% from three.
Instead of looking at Russ, we should be looking at all the other starters. None of them stepped up.
They can’t win with 9 points from Walker, 7 points from Dennis, 8 points from Bryant, etc.

Honestly it’s probably a D, he’s never been known to be a good defender in his career and he was tasked in part to guard a player who is clearly going to go down as one of the greatest of all time offensively. Russ doesn’t understand team defense and trying to play to strengths and force a player into their weaknesses, he instead gambles and loses against a guy who will absolutely make you pay 100% of the time.
Overall, Luka was going to cook anyone in front of him and our old guys just don’t play defense on the individual level anywhere near where it needs to be to even slow a guy like Luka down. I think our coaching staff needs to recognize that despite our solid D rating thus far, it was with AD and without him, the scheme must change to even stand a chance and they did nothing.
