How the LA Clippers Pulled Off the Most Unlikely Comeback

The 2nd game of the Los Angeles Clippers’ 5 game trip was against a Cade Cunningham-less Detroit Pistons team. Kawhi Leonard was rested in the first of a back to back with the 2nd game coming against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday. Paul George and the rest of the team were healthy and nearly lost the game before a 16-2 run in the final 3 minutes by the White Flag Lineup forced an Overtime in which the LA Clippers brought it home.

Why was it so tough to beat the team with the worst record in basketball? How did the Clippers pull off the comeback? Who were the catalysts? Die hard Clipper fan and Host Darian Vaziri goes through all the ups and downs in this edition of Locked On Clips.

  1. The rotations are terrible and they don’t play hard all the time. Don’t look now,but we’re movin on up!!!

  2. I feel like the energy just isn’t there. There we genuinely some moments where I was putting in more effort behind a TV SCREEN then some of these dudes out there the clipper players seem like they have just fed into what the front office is saying about regular season doesn’t matter and it’s irrelevant. It’s too late now to ask for a culture change but if we up the intensity a lot of our problems will disappear

  3. Biggest issue is Ty Lue and his inability to recognize that Batum should be playing over Morris and Luke & Mann needs to play more minutes than Reggie Jackson and all 3 need to be part of the core rotation. I think it’s pretty obvious the team is much better defensively and the ball movement on offense is much more fluid and does not get stuck when George, Jackson & Morris get the ball. Having Jackson & Morris as 2nd & 3rd options is ridiculous to me. The loyalty of Lue to those 3 guys is not healthy and is not good for the success of the team. The core rotation of Kawhi, Batum, Zu, George and either Mann, Luke or Powell. Any combination of those players are very effective.

  4. The offensive is a pain to watch, completely random actions till someone pulls out a 3pointer or a turnover, Zubac can't catch a pass to save is life, Reggie has too big of an ego for his actual impact on the games and should be traded. Really, the only moment when the offense is organized is when kawhi is on the court and the hierarchy is clear so the role players don't play hero ball every possession to try to raise their value in the trade market. I think the solution may be a sort of offensive triangle scheme with no playmaker but lue is too stupid to pull out something like that

  5. Ty Lue is just an incompetent coach… noticed in the 2021 playoff run when they kept getting those 0-2 starts cause he just kept starting Zubac even though he would consistently get cooked by the other teams guards. Too far into the season for them to get rid of him but Ty Lue has to go this off season… the only other coach that may be worse than him is Darvin Ham for putting out a 5 guard lineup but a 4 guard isn’t much better. Covington can’t even get consistent minutes so I don’t understand why people just expect him to play great the little bit of times he does get in. Kennard, Norm, Mann, PG, & Kawhi are good enough to do the ball handling & playmaking. The offense will flow with the right lineups are there.
