Rumor: Celtics’ reserve guard Payton Pritchard drawing trade interest

Not exactly the most ringing endorsement, but obviously it’s something that has been discussed here. Pretty much goes over all of the pluses and minuses we already know.

*“You’ve got to wonder about him defensively at that size (listed at 6-1), but he plays hard, he can really push the ball and he’s got a nice stroke from 3,” said one personnel man. “I like what I see, but it’s hard to say for sure if he could do more with a better opportunity. And first you have to ask if he’s better than what you have and if he’ll even get more of a look with your team. It’s hard to say, but I know I’m not the only team checking on him. It’s always natural in these situations.”*

Not a surprise. He should be getting more time we just have a stacked roster. Every time he’s given decent minutes he shows he can handle them.

Part of me would like to see him traded so he can get more of a chance, but the other part of me knows how important he is to this team if we have an injury.

I’d like to see us get a wing who can relive the jays a little more

Depends on what they offer. We don’t need draft picks. I’d trade pp if we got somebody that can crack the rotation, sure.

  4. Barring injury, this team doesn’t need anything. If you figure we’ll run an 8 man rotation in the playoffs and we’re 10 deep, we should be good. Right now, Peyton is insurance if Smart, White or Brogdon go down. If we want to play without that insurance, I’d go for a future first and a rookie wing.

Try and get Vanderbilt from Utah! He’s good and would have more playing time than PP on this roster given it would be more of a position of need!

Also Vanderbilt would provide insurance if Grant leaves next offseason.

With Brogdan’s injury history, it will take a lot to move on from Pritchard

I don’t see a team offering us a rotation caliber player for PP, I think we would have to throw in picks as well or similar.Would be curious to know what asking price for Jrich is though, he was a great fit last year before trade.

I feel bad for him. He’s good enough to be in the rotation for a lot of teams, just not really us with our depth. But he’s also good insurance to have, even if maybe two guards would have to go down for him to get significant playoff minutes for us. I wouldn’t move him just to move him by any means, but definitely listen to offers. There’s gotta be some wing or big somewhere of a similar skill level that’s in a the same spot as Pritchard where a 1 for 1 swap makes sense.

If not, keep him, get him a ring and move him in the summer (for his own playing times sake). Not interested in getting a future 2nd for him mid season since that’s probably be there in the summer too, and in the summer we can replace him with a vet FA. There’s less options for that now not knowing yet who will be a buyout candidate.

The chances we get someone as impactful as PP (in terms of just shooting alone) on PP’s salary is pretty unlikely

People forget how good he was for us off the bench in the playoffs last year (other than the finals)

Brogdon killed his minutes so I guess it’s time but I will miss him. He could start on other teams.

I’d rather keep PP for when something inevitably goes wrong and we need a PG that can handle the ball and hit a consistent three ball.
