  1. Relying on Precious Achiuwa to not be lottery team isn’t a great place to be

Toronto was 9th in defensive rating last year. We’ve taken a significant step back this year, particularly since Precious has been out. The value Precious brings to this team is more than just his individual skill. It allows our guards and wings to play their aggressive style of defence while still having a rim protector behind them to pick up the slack. Rather than having 3 players swarm the paint every time there’s penetration or the opposing team’s center gets the ball, they can play the passing lanes.

For those who don’t think Precious can be that paint defender we need, look at the defensive fg% he allows on shots within 6 feet. Last year he ranked better than Anthony Davis, Embiid, Turner, Poeltl, Porzingis, Okungwu and other centers known for their rim protection.

  3. I am also hopeful that OG plays like DPOY, Pascal like an MVP, FVV like an all-star, and Barnes like sophomore of the year.

Then just add Precious into the mix and we’re good enough to be 6th seed in the east.
