Boston Celtics win 4th straight; Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, shine vs LA Clippers

The Boston Celtics won their fourth straight game Thursday night with a very fun win over the LA Clippers. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum each scored 29, but Marcus Smart might have been their best player, pushing the pace, getting a bunch of assists, and then scoring when the passing lanes closed down. The othe role players were great, too, and the defense was really good, allowing the Celtics to win a game where they shot terribly from 3. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal discusses all that, Brown’s cutting opening up his offense, and lessons Joe Mazzulla can learn from this game.

  1. If we would’ve shot the three ball a bit better this would’ve been a blowout. I mean the J’s were like 3 of 19 combined. But it didn’t matter-the defense came through in the clutch. Those final two plays, the blocks by White & Horford were fantastic. And as usual Smart was the catalyst. When he intercepted that pass from PG with about 3 mins left, that was it. The rest of the team just fed off of that energy to close things out. And how about Robert? He looks better & better each game. Thanks John! ☘️🔒

  2. I didn't get to watch the entire game. However, I am glad the Celtics won. I'm just getting over a seasonal illness. Don't worry, I'm better now.

  3. Thank you sir for giving us so much more podcasts than the other locked on teams
You are a giant in the industry
    I salute you sir
You are the locked on 🐐

  4. John, spot on as usual. I recall Jaylen mentioning the need for a timeout a few weeks ago. It's a tool that coaches have at their disposal, so Mazz should take advantage of it.

  5. Woah woah I agree 100% JB should be in the conversation for one of the best midrange shooters in the league, but don’t go there comparing him to Demar in how he always gets praised for his midrange game and it’s not your first time doing this lol. Demar has been doing this since I was in elementary school and I’m 24 now. He’s the elite of the elite of any midrange shot. JB gonna get his flowers and noticed for it if he continues to do this and we go deep in the playoffs again. But come on bro demar probably rip Hamiltons pupil or sum

  6. I love the Celtics. But it's time for someone to say it out loud ….. they take too many damn threes. They shot 28 % as team last night from three. Even if they have their hot nights from three The Jay's are great but they are NOT the splash brothers. Look how effective JT is when he attacks the basket. Look how efficient JB is in the midrange. Yeah shooting 40% from three is equal to shooting 60% from closer. Yeah the team can have nights or string together a few where they shoot better than 40 as a team. But not every night – w this team actually not most nights. We forget that one game when you shoot 46 % and one where you shoot 33% averages out to 40 % but also averages out to a 500 record unless you bail out the bad shooting night w great defense. Yeah they can still bail out some bad shooting nights w good defense and great shooting in the midrange and the paint. But why put wins in jeopardy by chucking up threes early in the shot clock if you're a streaky 3 point shooter when you can get closer to the basket. Look at JB's line last nite – 0-8 from three 12-25 for the game meaning 12-17 from anywhere else. JB( and JT) have a lot of nights like that- actualy more nights like that than nights where they shoot above 40 from three. I understand that spreading the floor sets up open lanes to drive but that's the point – the occasional three or finding a hot or open man on the perimeter can set up more easier scoring inside – but thats the point the long range shooting should set up the inside game not be the focus on most nights. Basing your offense on betting on hitting threes will work as a strategy less than 50% of the time for THIS team unless you happen to be playing a bad team or an exceptional night on defense. Not to mention the times (TOO MANY) when the three point attempts are off the dribble early in the shot clock and missing and just ends up giving the other team a fast break. Might be ok for the regular season, but what happens when you go up against a really good team for a seven game series? And why put yourself in a hole where you live and die by the three when you're an average 3 point shooting team as a team and individually when you got two guys ( 3 w Brogdon) who can score incredibly efficiently in different ways? Let's put more of the emphasis on back cuts dives to the rim and JB and JT getting closer to the basket. I'm getting tired of the nights where the Celts stink out the building chucking up threes when they ain't got it going and then have to hope the other team stinks worse on offense and/or bail themselves out with an exceptional defensive effort. And they're not a great rebounding team either. They can get away with this stuff enough of the time regular season but they won't win a championship focusing on winning by shooting the three. They should change some bad habits now

  7. Yeah Jon. More DeRozan, more Jimmy Butler in JB's game. More Kevin Durant in JT's game. Those guys go in that direction and the Celts will be unstoppable!
