They got suspension lengths wrong IMO, but the bench clearing rules have been around for awhile, so they were definitely right to suspend everyone that came off the bench. even the broadcast crew knew they’d all be handed 1-game suspensions when the situation was occurring

Hayes was suspended for too long.

  3. Cynicpvp

Punching someone in the back of the head is pure bitch move. Hayes should’ve got longer, so no they didn’t get it right

The Magic players leaving the bench all deserved their suspensions, because that rule is clearly defined. It was clear what was going to happen. The rulebook doesn’t make exceptions for trying to protect your teammate disappearing into a crowd of opposing players. Those are 100% fair.

But the other suspensions were flat wrong. You’re telling me a hard foul during game play is twice as bad as running up and shoving someone in the back after a stoppage in play? And the hard foul is 66.7% as bad as punching someone in the back of the head?

Naw. Wagner would’ve gotten a flagrant 1, *maybe* a flagrant 2, had Diallo and Hayes not lost their shit.

The NBA fucked this one up.

Hayes was wrong for punching him in the head but its crazy how different the reaction is now than when jokic sidelined a dude for 40 games. Hard for me to feel bad about someone cheap shotting in either situation. Next time keep your hands to yourself

Wagners shove is a flagrant 1 and maybe, just maybe, a flagrant 2 had a fight not broken out. So imo, Wagner shouldn’t even be suspended. But if they had to do it to not piss people off, it should’ve been one game max. Hayes on the other hand punched Wagner in the back of the head, which is not only super cowardly, it’s extremely dangerous. I think three games is too little.

So no, the NBA didn’t even come close to getting it right imo.

No Hayes should appeal his suspension. There’s no logical argument that his retaliation was 3 times worse than Jokic’s retaliation last year that injured Morris for 58 games. Wagner is fine, he was listed as questionable for the Magic’s next game before suspensions were announced. It also wasn’t a “rabbit punch” like some people are trying to say. It was more like a forearm and it way too high up on Wagner’s head to be a rabbit punch, which is why Wagner is fine and probably won’t miss any time to injury after his suspension.

Joe Dumars, Piston great, was in charge of the discipline. Did we really thing it would be a long suspension?

This is a fun case study. I’m clearly of the opinion they fucked up and Hayes gets off light here. It will be interesting to see the reactions to this vs. the Jokic situation as time goes on. Lot less “fuck around find out” now

What’s the O/U on how many people comment “They don’t even allow that in MMA”?

  11. LoudRise858

Hayes should have at least gotten 10 games. Silver enabling that type of bullshit with these soft ass punishments. I really wish the NBA change commissioners, especially one with a spine

  12. JimFromTexas77

Hayes should’ve got 41 games. Punching someone in the back of the head is an attempt to cause a seizure or generate serious harm.

  13. WiseWOOKIEE

The fines are as poorly handed out as the suspensions were when WCJ and G. Harris are coughing up nearly as much as Hayes it’s a pure comedy.

  14. I certainly can’t blame Magic players for leaving their bench, that’s for sure. Rules are rules sure but personally I think context matters and that 1 game would suffice. But that’s just me, either way they’re professionals, Magic are an organization. They’ll get through it and this’ll be forgotten next week.

I’m just glad from the sound of it that it seems like Magic will be able to dress 8 players by spreading out the suspensions? Possibly read that completely wrong but yeah.

NGL it’s Killian Haynes who really cares how long he’s out for, and the bench clearing rules have been this way for a while

  16. stitchmark

Killian threw a weak forearm with his off hand (he’s a lefty) that yes, he should not have thrown, but it was not an ‘insanely vicious rabbit punch too brutal for the MMA!!!!’ and I really do not even think Moe was knocked out, he fell over from the shove and the hit and then was wrapped up by the coaches, you can see in the overhead view that he looks back at Killian as soon as he hits the bench

suspension lengths were reasonable for all parties, can’t believe there aren’t more people seeing it how it actually happened

  17. rookie-mistake

nope, apparently George Parros is running their player safety department as well

  18. Venator1138

It’s interesting to see the differing reactions to this vs. Jokic. By and large Hayes is getting made fun of for this (to the point where he’s disabled social media comments lol)

nobody but heat fans gave af about what Jokic did
