If I was the Mavericks, I would simply come to the terms.

Should be getting a firm answer in the next few days

you’re not getting a better big. just give him that 4yrs

Losing Wood because we don’t want to give him THJ money would be pretty yikes.

This is assuming Wood wants an extension.

Houston spent a year shopping him and got nothing. He has only a few months left on his contract before hitting free agency. It is really tough to think there is a market for him outside of teams looking to get off long term contracts.

  6. If we give him the max extension and he declines we have to trade him. Can’t repeat the Brunson disaster

Extremely disappointing if they can’t come to terms. He’s the perfect fit next to Luka and that’s fair value for him.

Spending an FRP on a player just to trade him a few months later should be a fireable offense if it happens

I would really like us to at least offer the 4 year 77M extension to Wood. He might already feel he can get more than that in Free Agency, which is fine. Can’t do much about that. I don’t want us to risk pissing off another 2nd best player on the team by not offering what we can before the trade deadline.
