> If the Mavericks can’t come to terms with Christian Wood on a new contract, they are widely expected to explore the trade market for him before the league’s Feb. 9 trade deadline

It’s the right move. Can’t risk losing him for nothing like Brunson. Offer him the max extension. If he takes it, great. If he doesn’t, trade him.
Mavs when anyone performs good next to Luka: straight to jail
Bruh, they about to sell this dude away for peanuts after losing KP/JB
Mavs fans chime in. But this seems like a guy you need to keep around Luka. He isn’t perfect, but seems to be the only other consistent scorer.
What the fuck are we doing. He’s our only other option to score
Cuban when Luka gets a good teammate: “We don’t do that here”
What is Cuban cooking in there
Before everyone freaks out, we can only offer him 77/4 before free agency starts. We have reportedly offered 36/2 which is the exact same annually just 2 years instead of 4. If he wants more per year, why would he take 4 years of what he perceives as an underpay instead of taking the money and then cashing in for one last pay day when the cap spikes before he turns 30.
This is decidedly not a Brunson situation.
Who do they want from the knicks in return
Rockets struggled to get any draft pick in return for him. I imagine the Mavs would rather have a player, but not sure what they could get for a guy who’s expiring and wants the payday.

Can anyone share full article?
Cuban is so fucking cheap man
how many more players are the Mavs gonna strike out on before Luka requests a trade?
I mean they should do this, it doesn’t mean they will trade him but if they can’t agree to a new contract the Mavs can’t afford to keep letting talent go for nothing.
Hope he stays though.
Any Wood trade will be a salary dump and won’t be getting asset back.
$18 mil per for Wood is a little low by a couple of Mil but fair.
Maybe Mavs think Wood’s good attitude this year is contract year good vibes abs don’t want to be tired down to him.
He is still a good talent though, the biggest risk is what the Mavs hope to replace him with. This FO already moved on from KP and Brunson.
I don’t get it
luka out after his contract
Christian Wood for Gobert.
If they ever offer Luka a paycut like they did Dirk, then I’m sorry Dallas is trash for life
Christian Wood for Richaun Holmes and Terence Davis. Get it done Monte!
He seems like he really likes playing next to luka, I feel like Kidd and Cuban are going out of their way to push him out by taking forever to start him/play him real minutes and being weird with his contract
Offer him the extension, if he says no then ask if he wants more money or if he just doesn’t want to be in Dallas
If he wants to be in Dallas but wants more money, ride it out and wait for his contract to be up and offer him a better deal, if he just doesn’t want to be in Dallas THEN I can understand moving him
Anyone who gives Wood a max is out of their fucking minds.
I wonder if the Suns would have any interest. Ayton hasn’t been happy or getting looks, but has a lot of potential. The Suns could use a big who can put the ball in the hoop and create more offense.
* Suns send Ayton, Crowder, and Lee
* Mavs send Wood, Kleber, Bertans, and Green
This improves the Mavs defense and gives them some decent shooting. The Suns get rid of Ayton and Crowder, who are unhappy, and get some more perimeter oriented scoring, along with some young talent for taking on Bertans’ terrible contract.
I hate this team rn
3nD o another Spacing 5 out big incoming.. Might as well sign Ryan Anderson
Does anyone in here have actual knowledge of the contract at play because it seems Ike most folks don’t.
Woof is eligible got a 4 year/77 million extension at MOST. We can’t offer him anything in the 20 to 25 range until the season ends. If you were Christian wood having a great year on a winning team, would you take what you’d perceive as a 4 year underpay or take the same deal for dollars per year for a shorter number of years? That way, on the end of a 2 to 3 year deal, he can cash in on a large contract one last time before he turns 30. Or, he could obviously turn down the extension and bet on himself. Given his numbers and performance, that may also be a likely choice for him. I see a lot of “‘why aren’t the mavs offering 4/77 or why aren’t the mavs giving him whatever he wants”. Why would wood accept the formal deal when he could sign a shorter term deal and then go for a larger contract while still in his prime or even go all in for this off-season betting on himself? As for the latter, we literally can’t offer him something like 40/80 because his max value per year is capped during the season.
Everyones gonna freak out, but if he’s not gonna sign a deal you gotta get something back for him. Cant risk him walking in free agency even if he pinky promises he’ll re-sign come the offseason
How does Terrence Davis and richaun Holmes sound
Alright who can they get from the Knicks for trading them Christian Wood? Cause we know that’s who they’ll be doing business with
cuban is fiat-pinching during this crypto winter
Wood for LeBron
Cuban a little rat
We have offer one slightly damaged Marvin Bagley
Christian Wood getting passed around like a blunt
Aka that man gone
Luka is absolutely bolting in these next couple years
They’re really just gonna do the Dirk again
Wonder who the next team to try out the Wood experiment before trying to trade him away within a year will be
Do it, there are 20+ other teams that would be starting him and giving him 15+ attempts (at least) per game
I don’t hate paying him that 36m/2y but also don’t hate the 4y max extension either. It’s basically “standard” starter money. Doesn’t even take up 20% of this year’s salary cap at his highest year.
Unless he wants 85m-90m over 4y (22.5m for 90m/4y), which I’m probably comfortable giving to him given the cap increases and CBA looming.
18/8 with a block shooting 54% and 40% is fine for that money imo.
Wood must *really* be unpleasant in the locker room if no one wants to keep him around despite him producing everywhere he goes
Wallahi im finished
🤦🏽♂️
Do people think wood is a winning player?
In summer 2025 a new broadcasting deal kicks in and even with smoothing a then 2years/40m contract for a good player is amazing, great for roster construction or trading.
I at least want to read that the Mavs offered 4yrs/77m and Wood said “no”.
Nwora and a 3rd…who says no?
You’d think general managers learned from watching LeBron during his first stint with the Cavs but nah lmao
