Spencer Dinwiddie has shot 40.6% from 3 in 61 games since his trade to Dallas in 2022. Prior to the trade, he was a career 31.7% shooter (364 games).

Dinwiddie seems to magically have become an elite shooter in Dallas. I hated the Dinwiddie trade at the time since it looked like we were giving Porzingis up for a chucker, but he proved me wrong just weeks after the trade by leading us to multiple comeback/clutch victories in the second half of last season. He ended up shooting 40.4% from 3 in his 23 games in Dallas last season, a considerable improvement over his previous career-best mark of 33.5% in 2018-19. Even in the playoffs he shot 41.7% from 3.

Despite whisperings of last season’s performance being fluky, he’s kept it up this season, and on higher volume too due to Brunson’s desertion (40.7% on 6.4 3PA vs 4.6 last year). He and Christian Wood (who is also shooting 40% from 3) are helping the Mavs stay afloat in the Western Conference despite injuries to key role players and inconsistent performances from healthy role players.

I mean at least someone on our team has to benefit from open looks from luka. No one else really is

He was straight cashing during that knicks game comeback, i was like “this is spencer dinwiddie fr?!”

Yep, playing with Luka can do that to most role players. Same way Aaron Gordon efficiency has increased year after year since playing with the Joker.

Luka gets his guys wide open looks from 3. Watched 5 games of it in the playoffs. They just need to hit

Dinwiddie was a baller on the Nets and he’s finding consistency now that he isn’t playing as the first option. He’s not an all star but a great sixth man level talent who can win games by himself when he gets hot, like against the Suns

It’s not even all Luka gravity/passes too. He has a knack for hitting contested threes too. Too bad he’s a sorry ass playmaker, cause if he could playmake. He would basically touch star status in this league.

Luka has an effect of making above average talented Nba players lives a whole lot easier.

  8. Haven’t looked but I’d bet he’s shooting a lot more spot ups vs off the bounce in that time.

For as much credit as Luka rightfully gets for the Mavs destruction of the Suns in Game 7, I really think Dinwiddie’s role in that game gets overlooked. Guy dropped 30 points on 15 FGA and ensured that the Suns went nowhere during non-Luka minutes. The last two games of that series it felt like he was routinely killing the Suns’ momentum with timely threes.

I would’ve thought he was better over his career. Factor that in with he started as a role player and gradually increased his scoring as his career went on

People who don’t watch Mavs games don’t see the tough shots he’s taking. Luka obviously helps a ton with getting open but Dinwiddie has been huge for us. It’s not just his 3pt shooting either, he’s shot below 40% from the field in many of seasons but this year he’s got a career high 46%

I remember watching him at the start of his career with the Pistons. During his rookie year I watched his first start (and only start that season) for a career high 12 points and 9 assists. About a week later he had 20/8, after which my friends and I discussed that he had a pretty high ceiling for being a 2nd round pick. Needless to say, I’m very happy to see his success with the Nets and Mavs after he left us, and I hope it continues.

I don’t get all the “this is not a Luka stat, Dinwiddie is getting tough buckets”. Yes, he is. But he is 35.8% from 3 in pull ups and 46.2% in cach and shoots. He was 29.5% and 34% last year pre-All Star and 37% and 43.8% post-All star.

He is the one who has to make the shots, of course, and other Mavs aren’t doing it. So, really good for him. But I think Luka is helping him.
