Love Claxton but let’s be real y’all JA is the better player

Nic – JA can’t guard out to the perimeter like Nic and that is a core part of our defensive scheme.

I think JA’s stats are a little misleading at face value. With context, his running mate is an up and coming 7 footer that’s also grabbing 9 rebounds, needs interior touches, and providing interior protection. JA would be averaging 12+ rebounding with the Nets because we literally have no one who’s an above-average rebounder. The other thing is the free throws. It can’t be understated how much of an issue it will be for us to manage two horrid free-throw shooters in the clutch during the playoffs. Ben and Claxton aren’t just bad free throw shooters, they’re literally bottom of the league at 41.3% and 46.7%, respectively. That’s going to be difficult to scheme around in the playoffs, but at least Claxton doesn’t let it impact his aggressiveness.

All that said, I’m glad it’s an actual debate. Really happy with the progress Claxton.

JA only a better free throw shooter at this point

Love both, JA getting hype after that embiid elbow was cool af.

It’s ridiculous to consider but Imagine having both.

Nets have a 1 pos lead late.
JV calls TO. Sends out Clax, JA, KD, Simmons, Yuta.

Look i know clax playing well but the fro is different

JA is a better rebounder, FT shooter, post defender.

Clax is a better shot blocker, perimeter defender, ball handler, finisher.

JA is a better screener, but Clax is more dangerous off the roll.

Both are great dunkers, but JA doesn’t have the touch around the rim that Claxton does. Some of those full speed transition layups that Nic has shown are seriously impressive.

I think it’s very close, but in his current form, Claxton is a better fit to the scheme Brooklyn runs. He’s also very clearly not done developing, which, considering the leaps he’s made during this season alone, is the most exciting thing.

One ***big*** thing that can’t be shown on stats, though – Nic is a huge pain in the ass and gets in other players’ heads consistently. He’s gritty and kind of an asshole (and we love him for that). Overall, the closest thing we’ve had to K-Mart in nearly 20 years.

Claxton she’s more dog in him than JA. If Claxton could shoot FT’s at a 70% rate, which he will soon, this won’t be a debate.

If Clayton can somehow fix his free throw problems. He’s can be a Top 10 center in the NBA

JA is my guy; but I think Clax fits the Nets defensive scheme better currently. Also, shout out to Marks for finding both these guys in the latter half of the draft. Guy has an eye for talent.

I’d still take Allen in a heart beat.

Larger sized bigs still work Claxton.

Allen can shoot FT and he’s better at post defense as well.

Put Allen on this squad rn and he probably averages 15/15/2 blocks.

Overall it would’ve been best if we had both, we probably would’ve had a championship by now (Allen on Giannis for the Bucks series then Allen to guard Ayton)
