I don't know how you can evaluate a team that is missing 5 of their top 7 players. With CP3, Cam Payne, and Booker out they have no true primary ball handler and none of their top 3 playmakers. I do think you are spot on in saying they need a 2nd star in order to reopen their championship window because Mikal/DA are both 3rd or 4th options and CP3 age is catching up with him fast. To call their future bleak is insane to me because Booker is just starting his prime, they own all of their picks, and have Mikal/DA/Cam J as assets to go after a costar for Book.
The problem with Phoenix is that they are missing the number 1 option guy. Devin Booker has been it because they have no one else for the job. I'm not saying Devin cannot be it, but he is clearly not it right now. CP3 has never been a reliable number 1 option. They chopped Ayton in half over the summer so he ain't going to be it even if he could. They are like Toronto before they got Kawhi for a season. They need to luck into a rental top tier player to push them over the top… But as it is and as the league is, staying put over the last summer, is actually taking a step back. So as good as the Suns have been, they are likely not as good this season. Especially with all the injuries…
