Team building is an incredibly complicated process when building around a player like Luka. A lot of teams have a core of multiple lottery picks to build around before they become a playoff team. The mavericks were a playoff team his rookie season before trading literally every other starter away in an attempt to get him help.
Nelson practically lost his job because the KP gamble wasn’t paying off, and put the team in an almost impossible position to retool. Despite drafting Luka and JB in the same draft.
The org brings in a new coach, new GM, and somehow manages to make the the WCF in their first year because of a very ballsy trade that almost the entire fan base criticized. The front office made another trade in the offseason that is proving to be a net positive as long as they didn’t give up a FRP for nothing.
The Mavericks are constantly a part of rumors to make more trades this season in an attempt to bring in help/free up cap space before 2025. When you look at the big picture it’s obvious that the organization is doing everything they can to put the right pieces around luka. Realistically the only mistake they made was not extending JB last year. Trying to build a contender when you have no draft picks to trade, only 2 young potential rookie contract players being developed, and no cap space is really hard.

This Luka run so far has been the exact same as Lebron first 7 season with the Cavs
It’s good for fans to apply pressure to not allow that to happen, just being a playoff team isn’t good enough, fans shouldn’t settle for that.
Mavs HAVE to be contenders, otherwise history repeats itself and Luka leaves, just like Lebron did

I hate stuff like this because they make it seem like a GM can run to the store and grab some extra help.
The FO knows the supporting cast isn’t great and I am sure they are exploring all options. Making a mural (not even that good, TBH) of Luka asking for help just dismisses all of the effort (and luck) it requires to get said help. Plus it shadows the efforts of other guys we need on our team, that have been stepping up big time. Luka is GOAT but don’t think for a second those wins would have had the same outcome without the other dudes on this roster.
