The premise of the signing wasn’t bad at all, but yeah JaVale is washed. I still think Kidd has a really tight leash on him. JaVale can help in 5-10 spot minutes if needed still IMO. That first quarter vs the Pels the other day was really nice by him.
Would have been better off using the MLE on Bruce Brown.
I don’t think this is something to kill Cuban/Nico for though. If we kept Brunson with the Wood addition, I’ve never been more positive we’d be the #1 seed right now and true title contenders. We all knew how good JB was for us from when he was a rookie. Is anyone here really surprised by how he’s playing with NY? Either you weren’t watching the Mavs closely or idk. Laughing at how everyone was calling him overpaid, it’s literally below his market value, look at his counterparts in Poole/Herro/Maxey.

Javale’s physical gifts can no longer compensate for his bonehead mistakes. He’s just not playable anymore beyond a few extreme circumstances.

They couldn’t just gun for a younger center with more upside like Jalen Smith or Isaiah Hartenstein. They had to go this route because “championship experience.”
We’ll have to watch this guy deteriorate further for another 3 years. Buckle up.

5-6 mio isn’t that bad with this cap (and rising). Can be put into many trades where Dallas already gives up picks.
I also wouldn’t count out the possibility that he can really help in specific playoff match ups.
The one contract that kills the Mavs right now is Bertans.
