Vecenie in latest pod: “I’m straight up in on the Knicks. This team is good”

On Sam Vecenie’s great “Game Theory” podcast, he went over the state of several mid-range teams, including the Knicks. He and his guest, Mark Shindler, “try to figure out what in the world is going on with the Clippers, Blazers, Knicks, Hawks, Pacers and more”. Sam really raves about Brunson, Grimes, Quickley, Mitch, as well as the recent form of RJ and Julius. He notes that the Knicks are 8th overall in net rating and believes the Knicks will finish as a playoff (not play-in) team in the East. It’s a good listen. Sam is great for giving straight takes on what he’s actually seeing that don’t get wrapped up in traditional narratives.

I’m surprised to say this but I think this team has some serious potential.

Julius is playing with an intensity and focus that is exciting.

Brunson is THE guy on this squad. Cool, calm, collected, clutch. Nothing else needs to be said.

Grimes and Quickley are staring blossom

Big Meetch is not valued as much as he should be. The dude is a complete monster on the boards and defensively.

However, I feel that this team is being deprived of its best form, especially ok the offensive end and I think that a coaching change is the next thing to do for this team to take the next step collectively.

Thibs has done an amazing job with this team and I think he instilled a culture and understanding within the team which cannot go overlooked, but I really feel that there isn’t much more he can do for this team.

He didn’t bench RJ last night for Grimes when RJ was just not helping this team at all in the late fourth quarter. He also has had no problem watching this Knicks team blow lead after lead after lead in the fourth quarter. Brunson is being picked up full court and double teamed the moment he and Randle cross half court and Thibs has yet to make an adjustment to remedy this situation.

I just don’t understand how you repeatedly see this happen and not do anything about it. I know we won the Pacers game but I believe it to be fools gold – we should have lost because how poorly coached we were down the stretch.

This team has some serious potential but they need to the right coach to help them maximize their potential on the offensive end. It’s just iso heavy ball right now and that’s about it.

Really good pod to follow. He’s also good and covering draft prospects.

Team is good indeed, but until they get that finishing touch, they won’t go far in the playoffs. They can’t keep blowing leads late. It’s comedic at this stage. It’s also easy money. Anyone not smashing money on the other team at the half in any game the knicks have a double digit lead is leaving money on the table…

the other dude Mark floats out that the recent IQ trade rumors may have come from IQ’s camp.. and we saw similar reports about Obi earlier in the year..

so it seems the bench stars are starting to feel they should start somewhere.
