I’ve never played eras can you explain it a little? Is it like a franchise or do you just play certain events? I tried looking it up and still confused

Playing season mode with a user-created legends roster. Got a starting 5 of LeBron, Price, Donovan, Hot Rod, and Brad with Ky, Kev, Big Z, Austin, Campy, Jarrett, DG, and Mobley (I said it was user-created) coming off the bench. Insane, geeky fun.

I grew up playing Tecmo NBA on the original Nintendo so playing in the Jordan era uses the same beginning roster and is a huge nostalgia trip.

I did the 2003-onwards era. Drafted LeBron and then managed to get Amare to live out my wish from back in the day.
Had a blast going through each year and drafting the guys I wanted and who turned in to good players irl but with wee changes.
In mine Shaq and Kobe stayed in LA a bit longer and won more championships before I managed to sign Shaq as an FA and Kobe went to New Jersey.
The branding and uniforms changing to align with each year is a really great touch too
