How many titles would the Cavs have won if they never traded Ron Harper? During the ‘89-‘90 season the Cavs traded the 26 year old Harper who was averaging 22 pts 7 rebounds and 7 assists a game along with two 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick to the Clippers for Reggie Williams and Danny Ferry.

Williams would play only 32 games for the Cavs averaging under 7 points 2 rebounds and 1 assist per game and Ferry is one of the biggest busts in NBA history averaging 7 points 3 rebounds and 1 assist for his career. The trade for Ferry is even more confusing as the Cavs already had Larry Nance and Hot Rod Williams at the Power Forward position. Harper went on to average around 20 points 5 rebounds and 5 assist for the next several seasons for the Clippers and eventually win 5 NBA championships. This is one of the worst trades in NBA history and sunk a potential Cavs dynasty that would go head to head with Jordan’s Bulls through the ‘90s.

The Cavs probably never win a title, but they would have been a better team for sure.

I mean it’s pretty fucking easy to look at things in hindsight. Ferry was one of the best basketball players of the 80s before the NBA. 2 time HS all American, HS national player of the year, 2 time all American in college, national player of the year in college, broke a ton of Duke records, went to 3 straight final fours, two time regional MVP.

He was supposed to be Jokic before Jokic. And pairing that with Price, Daugherty, Ehlo, and Nance was fucking nuts. He was supposed to be WAAAAAAAYYYYYYY better than Harper
