Don’t take our Poeltl Toeltl! I’d really like to see him stick around if we’re able to meet or exceed that $80m rumored target after he’s urfa

No team is going to give up 2 first round picks for Poeltl. Spurs will either have to budge, or it won’t happen. Long story short, it’s not happening barring a miraculous and surprising offer.

Asking high to settle at 1 is a good negotiation tactic. That’s fair value for a top 12ish center.

  4. I’m all in resigning him to a 5year/100 mil. He’s a defensive anchor that our entire new identity would ideally to be built around. I’d much rather lose dougie or Josh to add more short term extra picks (but we have plenty of extra picks coming imo). Jak is 27 and his game is not tied to his athleticism in a huge way. His game will age well. And if we can get a little lottery luck and pair him with Victor….🥹

Honestly, I would still be tempted for a deal with the Warriors for Poeltl. I mean, they have a pick, they have young projects that even if not that great, could be fine. I would like to see how to structure one.

Jakob and Doug/JRich and 2023 1st via CHA (that won’t convey but can untile 2026) and like 2 2nds

    for

Wiseman, Kuminga, PBJ, Rollins (filler), 2023 1st (Top 16 Protected)

Honestly, I would love this. They get Jakob and they can still resign him. They get either Doug or JRich, depends if they want a player to keep the following season too (Dougie) or get the better player and see if they can negotiate a contract (JRich). We basically get bench full of young projects to develop and honestly I would really really like it. We also get a 1st which now it’s a bit high but if they do this deal it will obviously go down because they will win more games and also because the teams in the Western Conference are kind of near for wins…

Poeltl for two first outright may not seem doable, however, the Spurs can offer added value by taking back bad salary and/or facilitating a 3+ team deal where someone needs to dump people/contracts to make room.

One mildly appealing piece is already off the board in Rui, though I not say we missed out or anything, just that he would have been interesting.

There’s alot of smoke and I don’t doubt some of these scenarios are active, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

I have no idea what they could possibly offer but not going to lie. Jacob would be a perfect fit in Dallas. Him and Christian would compliment each other well and he would feast on pick and rolls with Luka. Not to mention the much needed defensive presence he would bring.

At this point I really don’t think a Lakers deal has any chance of happening

Portland is an interesting one. They have a few intriguing young players. Swapping centers with them is not ideal given nurks long contract but I’m sure they can make it worth our while if they wanted to badly enough

I’m intrigued about the idea of Toronto bringing in another team. They have a few young players I rate highly, if they were willing to find a way to bring another pic to us, maybe by using someone like Gary Trent going to a different team, so we can get both first round picks, I would be most certainly interested.

I know Boston’s interested and reports have been buzzing that they’re all over the Spurs phones right now, I still have a hard time imagining a deal going through. They don’t seem like the type of front office willing to throw hail Mary risks, such as giving up multiple lightly protected pics. So if San Antonio did get those pics I see them as being protected in a way that almost guarantees. They drop in the bottom 10 or so of the first round. Maybe the Spurs still value this, but it seems less than what they would want.
I would be okay with a distant unprotected first becoming the basis of the deal, but 2028 seems not to make a ton of sense given the existing pics. Swap. Sure, there’s more value added but not enough to make it worse. Trading a player of his caliber. If it was unprotected in like 2027 or some other year I could get behind that

Lastly, the biggest shock in this report was New Orleans. Considering Jonas valentunis regularly punks us every time we play, it’s hard to imagine that wanting to move on from him. I haven’t watched a ton of pelicans basketball this year, but it seems like he’s been playing well enough for them. Which makes me feel like if they did trade him they would view the value as practically even and not willing to add many additional assets which defeats the entire purpose of the trade. Maybe the salary moved comes from somewhere else on the roster and the pelicans move. Jonas, in a separate deal, maybe a three-team trade, or just want to have the best backup center in the league. Either way, that would certainly be interesting if that move went down. No clue what players or pics would be involved
