Good stuff, but it was one half of one game. Jokic will crush them if they try this again.

Hard to draw conclusions from a 12 minute half

Beat it the same way you beat a zone- good outside shooting. I think the answer here is more MPJ/KCP shots from 3

You should forward this to Coach Malone đ

my delusional (but empirically verified) take is that Jokic often takes 1-2 games to feel out a particular matchup or defensive strategy. this was a valuable set of data to be absorbed and processed by the basketball supercomputer
edit: it’s cool how if you’re a bit shorter than a guy, you’re allowed to put two hands into his back when defending in the post.

Sure but also why didnt we talk about Malone?
so Doc made adjustments for Embiid defensively but Malone was like fuck it, Jokic can manage getting ripped on PnR
also what about the fact that we had MpJ sitting on the bench for too long, why not give him 30% more shots? Why did Bones shoot so much and Murray play Iso ball?
Felt like the nuggets were much better coached when the other coach was doing it the other night, the guy actually experimented
The thing im scared about is that Malone is a very conservative coach

I remember when Draymond “figured out” out to stop Jokic in game 1. I think he finished 31 13 and 6

Iâm taking a good dose of copium today. Malone and JokiÄ knew exactly what they couldâve done, but didnât want to tip their hand. It was a regular season game and we followed the last season game plan. If this happened in the playoffs they wouldâve done better. Chess not checkers yâall.

Utah did this 2 years ago with Royce and Rudy and Jokic dropped 47. This ainât a viable way to stop Jokic and Iâd go as far as saying the Sixers didnât even stop him. He stopped himself by playing with 0 aggression.

Biggest issue of this team remains coaching. Very slow to adapt.
Everyone always says Joker figures teams out the more he plays them and it’s likely true. However, it’s also coaching adaptability issue.
Considering all Nuggets series they won were mostly 7 game series with a sprinkle of 6 game ones it’s maby main indicator of the mentioned premise. Yes, I understand team quality was similar to opponents so they get a pass.
If they start playoffs this year and don’t obtain any 4:0 or 4:1 especially if the opponent is objectively worse, it might signal things ain’t gonna end the way everyone wants or rightfully expects.

I’m not that worried in the long term. I generally think the more Jokic plays against a certain defense, the lower their chances of slowing him down become.

Just shows how brain dead the Nuggets coaching staff was that game. If youâre going to put Embiid on Gordon, make Gordon the primary ball handler and pull Embiid away from the paint. Put Embiid in guard/forward inverted PNR and see if he can adapt to being screened on a smaller player and then drug out to the perimeter.
The Nuggets gave Embiid the night off on defense so he completely roasted Jokic on the other end. Dude wasnât even fatigued in the second half.

We need a version of Jok that was playing in that famous 82 game a few seasons ago vs Minnesota for the playoffs spot! TG fouled the shit out of Jok and still couldnât do anything to stop him. That is the version that Joker needs to tap into when needed.
