this second star search is getting tiresome. can’t they just upgrade the role players? tim averages 13 pts, but he gives you 25 one game, then goes cold next two… same with reggie, dorian, maxi, even wood & dinwiddie. to have players that can match their averages by being consistent every game, would be a big improvement. or maybe players with similar averages, but who can do little something more than just shoot 3 pointers… if they get a second star, those dudes probably won’t suddenly turn into more consistent contributors

The only reason Ayton has high value is because he's young . His contract is just too much , he's not that tough defender and obviously offensively he isn't a star caliber player . If Mavs could pull such trade in a package like Wood – Tim – Hardy and one first round pick , then I would be fine with this deal . But I wouldn't want to give up DFS or Green or more first round picks for Ayton . This would feel like a panic move

Sure if it was the right deal. Same for Bojan (88% FT?? nice). Siakam or Collins? ….trade anything just keep Green (X factor we need) .

What if we had a way to go get deandre ayton, a jordan clarkson type, AND Russell Westbrook
If a star caliber player becomes available how do the Mavs outcompete all the other teams that can put together a better and bigger package than we can? Having all your picks is not good enough. Lots of teams have all their picks, plus picks from other teams, and young talented players. We have just our picks and DFS and Josh Green. 2 picks, Quickley and Hartenstein is a better package than anything we can offer the Suns for Ayton for example.

Ayton needs a reset. His price is low now and he does have potential – like 2 post season ago -, during the whole extension saga, I thought he could be interesting because he has shown flashes of defense, even on the perimeter and he can score when he is into the game. I wouldn't necessarily look at him as THE #2, but I don't think that matters. It levels up the ceiling, which the Mavs desperately need. If they had Brunson, they would have a well rounded team.
Hell no I’m not trading wood Tim AND josh green… AND A FIRST?! for ayton and crowder?! We already can’t shoot. It does depend on the paccage, but that’s not one I’m with.

If you could somehow insert Powell's mindset into Ayton, it might be a great deal. If not, Ayton remains a 0-energy-guy who doesn't help at all.
I think the sellers would see at Dallas from perspective of getting their multiple 1st round picks, but Dallas need 2 star in return to those and phoenix might be looking to get rid of ayton by putting a label of second star on him, clearly he didn't worked in phoenix, and I am not sure if he would like it in dallas
