Ahead of Bam Adebayo, $28m/yr starting C? What’s your point?

Collins and a FRP for Powell, come on Atlanta

I doubt that means anything. Just look at where Embiid and Bam are. I mean Powell is a bad defender, but that stat doesn’t show that
relaxingd
…..why are u dumb? So Powell is better than Embiid and Bam…got you….Luka has a All NBA 1st Team Center next to him everyone !!! now we know🤣

Holy shit, Mo Wagner might as well just put it into his own basket

Dwight Powell is a horrible rim protector. That’s not his strengths. That’s why stats can only say so much.

The real issue with this is that a “good rim protector” is not just reducing the make percentage of shots within 6 feet, but is reducing the amount of those shots taken.
So, if a guy doesn’t drop the “expected percentage” by much, but reduces the number of close shots from 20 to 10 per 100 possessions, that’s a huge deal.
So, like everything, a single “stat” is just one piece of a much more complex puzzle.

So I found Dwight. Next question is, where is Christian Wood?
sinik_ko
Pretty solid considering all the overpaid bigs he’s above

Now do the same chart with DREB%.

not really bad for a backup, contrary to the “dwight powell wouldn’t make the roster on any other team” nephews
he does fine when the other 5 isn’t a massive mismatch in size/strength, which isn’t too often but it’s glaring. He’s an okay rebounder too but again it falls off a cliff when he’s facing a mismatch.

This ranking is really bugging me so I want to put things in perspective here. For a player to have a real impact looking only at this metric, a player really needs to be at +/-8 or better/worse. These are averages, so Powell at -3% means if a theoretical player shoots 100%, it takes 30 FGA before Powell forces a miss. Anyone at -8% it takes that player 12 FGA before forcing a miss. Better than -12% means the same player only has to take 8 shots before forcing a miss.
On top of that, one needs to consider how often the player being guarded doesn’t take a shot OR doesn’t even get a pass. That is an extremely hard metric to capture as raw FGA against doesn’t truly tell the story and it’s impossible to know what’s going on in a player’s head but we know from watching games that guys like Embiid, Jokic, and Gobert absolutely fit that mold.
SadatayAllDamnDay
And KP is/was one of the best rim protectors in the league, but look where that got the Mavs in protecting the basket.

But yeah, tell me more about what a negative asset Kristaps Porzingis is/was

It is just sad Powell works really hard but his positioning is so bad you bet the ball is going in one direction and he is in the opposite side. I think is matter of instincts, Luka on the other hand always seem to be in the right place at the right time, his basketball IQ and instincts are off the charts.
Somebody needs to work with Powell on that, positioning and rebounding, the guy is certainly athletic why he does not get any freaking rebounds?
