Personally would only sign FVV in free agency and if we don’t, wouldn’t be too fussed
Would rather save the cap space + assets to trade for when an actual star asks out
Also mods, take this down if it breaks the rules 🙂

I could be talked into this, however, Suggs is extremely young and has great defensive intuition. The guy is a competitor. Most importantly, he is super young compared to vanvleet

Fuck everything about this idea.
Also…..These people trying to clickbait without an actual credible source.

I’ll be so mad if we trade Suggs 🙁
maheebrown
Suggs was picked 5th.

This is the same guy who said Orl was going to pay WCJ 4/70 instead of 4 years for 50… Doubtful he actually has any sources

Ya we’re going to trade Suggs for a player who can opt out next year.
StanVanGhandi
Are we doing this again guys? We do this every year around the deadline or draft. A bunch of people who make revenue from you clicking on their stories put out a lot of stories and we all overreact. We forget every time who runs our team. Think of the Vuch trade. Remember the draft? Remember all our players being hurt forever until they weren’t?
No talking head, no article, no dweeb with a Twitter who likes to ruin draft picks before they are picked, knows what magic management is going to do. They don’t say anything, even when asked directly. It’s kind of their thing.
jcast59
This guys sources are people like KoC and Simmons saying this would be a great move on their podcasts. Remember this front office doesn’t really leak shit.
I’d lose a ton of faith in WeltHam if we give up on the next Marcus Smart for an undersized pg who’s already peaked and is about to demand a 9 figure contract. Doesn’t matchup with the rest of our teams timeline at all.
EndTyrannyNow
God I hope this is NOT true. The last thing we need is an aging, inconsistent shooting PG who wants 30 million p/y next year. I just can’t see our front office doing this kind of deal.
HeadlessShinobi
God Raptors fans are already being obnoxious assholes in the comments. Talking shit about us tanking and not being a free agent destination, like anyone wants to live in bum ass Toronto lol.

We already got dollar store FVV in Cole Anthony

I’d do it for Chuma considering he’s often injured and doesn’t play anyway, but not Suggs.
u-and-whose-army
The only way i’d trade for FVV is for something like Cole/Bamba/Ross and he guarantees an extension with us or something. Even then, I like Cole and FVV is aging.

If and I mean big IF we make this trade it screams ownership fucking us over again like when we did that ibaka and Harris trade

I wouldn’t mind FVV, our timeline is quicker than we thought it would be be given how awesome Franz and Paolo already are, and maybe we’ll get another stud in the draft this year. He’s not as productive this year but he’s a competitive player who would be great to continue building a winning culture.
The only caveat is they aren’t getting anything of value. No Paolo, Franz, Bol Bol, WCJ, Suggs, or Fultz, and you’re not getting a first-round pick for him unless it’s something like 2026 or later when we’ll probably be competing for a top seed.
Smmoove
I wouldn’t be surprised if we had 0 interest in FVV to begin with, and are just being used as leverage/looming bogeyman to try and inflate his value.
If you were Masai and you wanted to drum up FVV’s value so you can trade him before he hits unrestricted free agency since you don’t want to pay him.
1. Saying X team has plans to make a huge offer in the off-season will spur other teams into making a deal in advance to get his bird rights and a handshake deal in place.
2. How do you decide X team? Well, first just look at the teams who will have cap room and then of those who could plausibly be interested in a guard. AKA Orlando.
3. Wait a couple of weeks and then right before the deadline try to give the impression there is a bidding war happening. You start throwing out some semi-plausible names to try and push the price up. Say Suggs or Markelle is on the table. They know we don’t really do counter-leaks, and if it gets repeated enough without contradicting intel, reporters will start acting as if it’s fact (see: Jabari Smith).
4. If I had to guess, VanVleet has his eyes on the Clippers and Suns, and the Suns have significant mutual interest. He posted a cryptic picture of him and Booker a few weeks ago, and Phoenix calling around about CP3 makes me think they plan to try and swap him for FVV (or reroute elsewhere in a 3 teamer).
5. Otherwise, they might try to dump him for some picks, which frees up space to sign FVV in the off-season if Toronto tries to play hard ball at the deadline. Likewise there is buzz about Clippers trying to shed contracts, which doesn’t make sense given where they are – unless they are trying to create cap room to sign FVV outright since Masai is notorious for being difficult to trade with.
6. My prediction is Masai will play hard ball and end up not trading FVV at the deadline (just like what happened with Lowry) and end up settling for pennies on the dollar in a sign and trade.
LR_Mango
I hope LA get fvv, just not to read this magic trade rumors anymore. He is actually a good player, but it just don’t feels right in this squad we have running.
LilAnswer
This sounds like a clear “driving the price up” strategy

Don’t think Fvv is someone we want long term. He’s gonna want a big contract and has shit defense.

Orlando isn’t going after him. He’s not a big enough fish. Toronto is trying to get someone to bit since it “appears” Orlando “needs” a PG and have a lot of money.
