Before requesting a trade to Phoenix, Kevin Durant asked the Nets to trade for Pascal Siakam, per Zach Lowe. Durant wanted to “badly” play with Siakam, would’ve stayed the season in Brooklyn if Siakam had joined him.

  1. i figured this were the case.. i would love to know exactly how close we got to making this deal, but overall i think we made the right choice.. it’s basically known that Claxton would’ve been in the deal and our fanbase would’ve never let it go if we traded him just for KD to be unhappy and just ask out again anyways

Well now looking at the deadline and the moves made, they still weren’t going to get rid of the Patty mills Seth Curry and Joe Harris contracts. And the raptors gm won’t budging.

  3. geographic92

Everyone knew how desperate we were. Prob couldn’t get him without ruining our chances anyway.

  4. Unfortunately, I’m sure they were asking for Claxton… that’s just a no go.

At the end of the day, the fact that we lacked centers comes back to bite us in the ass again. If we had another playable center, I’m sure giving up Clax would have been discussed a little more.

Well, they shot themselves in the foot. The intentions of kd were obviously not clear to the rest of the league, and Toronto froze them out of a deal🤷‍♂️

  6. RealLanceStorm

Claxton + 3 first round picks and other pieces at least would have pissed fans off and KD would have requested a trade if they got knocked out second round again

  7. TheTwoMorningPoops

    They wanted Claxton

    Conversation was probably short

  8. NudeEnjoyer

whatever lol. we gave the dude everyone he wanted and it still all went wrong, Pascal is great but I doubt this would’ve been the turning point after all these years of dogshit. glad we didn’t drag it on

respect to KD but I’m glad he’s out, it’s much less stress. gl over in Phoenix big guy

  9. i_likethisusername

Reading about toronto’s asking prices, they probably wanted something close to what we got from Phoenix for KD lol. Plus we send out our 2 best young players and then if we don’t win, this off season KD asks out and we are stuck with Pascal and no youth and KD’s value lower.

If it awas doable without losing Clax sure, otherwise no way.

Fuck Joe Tsai and Sean Marks man

  11. ChefBoyAnde728

So when Durant said he never made demands for the nets to get anyone else to play with him and he just wanted to make the team he had around him better…

understandable. i think that that group had a lot of number 3 options that could maybe make up for true number 2 but maybe not.

  13. brook_lyn_lopez

i’d be pretty pissed if we got rid of claxton + draft capital to appease KD for a half-season. i have no doubt in my mind that he would have asked for a trade in the offseason unless we went all the way.

Can’t be mad at that. Pretty much why he wanted Kyrie to stay so badly. Just make sure that I have a good enough co-star and I’ll do whatever it takes to win.

But after hearing Kyrie’s comments about wanting to leave after year 1, I’m not too upset at Tsai wanting to wash his hands clean of Kyrie. Dude was probably an absolute irritant behind closed doors for them.

Always gonna root for the guy though as that’s my favorite player and hope he wins one in Phoenix. I just hope that those Kyrie to Suns rumors from Windhorst aren’t true, because he’s been batting 1.000 when it comes to the behind the scenes stuff

  15. Do people really think Toronto says yes to Cam + clax + 2 FRP + however many 2nd round picks we have?

Toronto says no. Let’s be real. Their GM is not a pushover. Nets didn’t have the assets to make this pipe dream a reality

  16. twobridges94

Can’t believe Nets didn’t pull the trigger. When has trading all our assets for one of KD’s friends ever backfired??

  17. TheMoorNextDoor

Raptors smelled blood in the water, then saying no single handedly destroyed us

  18. raidersclnj

No thanks. We can’t let players take an organization hostage. Bye dude.

  19. theRestisConfettii

“Asked” and “Want” are two different things.

In any event, I’m all for a player asking and **collaborating** with his management on building a winning team.

I’m not for a player making demands and saying do X or trade me. I’ll never root for that guy. Ever.

  20. Don’t think the risk would’ve been worth another 2nd round exit.

We already gave up enough of our future in the Harden trade.

  21. I’m glad the FO said no. Hopefully, the era of player empowerment (indulgence) is coming to an end.

  22. WittyRazzmatazz2110

I’m glad this is over with. The guy runs away when it gets hard.

  23. And note that Lowe specifically said “for the season”. We would have had to this dance all over again with KD with a trade request and more assets going to Toronto, vastly reducing picks/players. Glad they stuck to their guns and got it done.

  24. Trading Siakam for Claxton and picks is fair, but I don’t think it was the right decision for this team. You pull the trigger on a deal like that if you can keep KD and Claxton. That trio and our depth can contend for a championship. Without Claxton though I have trouble believing we’d have a squad that’s more than an early playoff exit. And then we’d have far less assets for the incoming rebuild. Just wasn’t worth the risk.

  25. nolimit_788

he has requested for many things, and it was not gone to anywhere. this trade is required so many assets that take many things from nets. it’s ok if it is going to be success. in case it’s not, kd request to be trade again in the off season and nets lose its future only to sacrifice his ego.

  26. Designedbyfreedom

It was sean marks for not getting any decent centers. Of course we said no, we had nothing else.

  27. It sucks because either Claxton would be in the deal or Dinwiddie and we’re short on both Center and point guard that can playmake. Getting Siakam would mean a team that just wouldn’t have enough pieces around it to win this year, but the summer maybe they could’ve built around them.

  28. Nah. KD should never play GM. All of his requests are fucking stupid. He decided Kyrie would be his co-star. Must sign DeAndre Jordan. Trade Jarrett, LeVert, Dinwiddie. Get Harden. Trade Harden. Fire Atkinson. Fire Nash. Ask to have Marks fired. Request a trade when none of it works. KD, Kyrie are fucking toxic people who took zero accountability for their roster input. They threw their weight around to make trades and firings and bounced when there was some adversity. now we’re stuck with the corpse of Simmons who shoots with the wrong fucking hand?
