And why did we agree to that Lakers’ pick immediately turning into a single 2nd if it doesn’t convey in 2027?
The trade isn't really bad when you consider we can replace all their value in FA, but the only way the jazz can win this trade is to not buy out Westbrook and see if you can get him the genuinely and publicly change his opinion about Utah in general and maybe help the public change their opinion about him a little about being a cancer. Could be a nice win win if you can get Westbrook to buy in. Plus if we give him a bunch of touches it will help us get a better pick
It will be interesting to see if this team can prove the doubters wrong again.
Many first round picks are protected in different ways. Jazz will more than likely not use it in the draft, but add to an offer to move up in this years draft or in a trade for another player.
Not a good deal, its a great deal. Sadly there are other pieces that did not get moved, for various reasons I am sure.
I am petty enough to want Westbrook to not be paid to go away. I would love to see him forced to dress while sitting on the bench, never to play a second. Give jazz fans the chance to boo him mercilessly every game. It will never happen, but I can dream.
I don't like the trade at all I don't understand why help the Lakers do anything and to trade for a guy who hates the Jazz the fans and the state even if he never plays the Jazz got nothing for this trade the draft pick the jazz got when have the Lakers be bad enough to get a top 4 pick I can't think of any time over the last 30 years so what does that protected pick do for the Jazz
I hate this argument no firsts traded bc Jazz didnt have to make any deal and could have waited for summer BUT deal was made for one reason and that is to lose games period. Why cant you and the Jazz admit that? Lakers pick could be late first the way they can add free agents. Cap space means nothing if you dont use it right #seeTheKnicks. Jazz should have made no deals and let season play it out.

By taking on the worst contract in the league and the players we traded, plus we sent two 2nds, PLUS all the Lakers have to do is tank into the bottom 4 and we essentially get nothing. It was bad David.

Totally with you on what’s going on and how hard it is to move on when we have played we like. Just a hard thing but we need to embrace the new opportunities and better understand how to build.
Jazz went with money 💰 cap space vs lots of picks. They got a more valuable pick then a bunch of lesser value ones. Teams do it based upon what they have and their goals. Imo it was a balanced approach trade and jazz listened and then acted. Gotta do those things and then live with the choice. We now embrace the suck and keep sucking until we succeed.
I agree with your premise that it's way more valuable to have a premium asset than a bunch of middling ones. That said, and this isn't a knock on the trade, we have basically zero seconds moving forward. That's not a concern in the sense of we have so many firsts we'll have enough rookie talent coming in. It's a concern in the sense of when we want to start competing again we've seen these past few deadlines how much short term "rental" type help you can get with seconds. I hope over the next year or so we can stockpile 4-5 seconds in the 2026-2030 draft for deadline deals to upgrade in the future.

You're lying to everyone. This trade was 100% a tank trade. You get two things out of this. One, your team is way, way worse (improving your draft odds). Two, You get off 24 million next year (either to save money or go get a free agent). There is not really anyone to go spend that money on next year. The best free agents are JC and Jerami Grant; not awesome. Sooo…. was this tanking? Or is the owner being cheap? You pick.
We don't have a point guard on the roster…. THT? No. Balmaro? No. Sexton? No. It's all shooting guards, no one to run the team and pass. The closest thing we've got to a playmaker on the team now is Kelly Olynyk. I like Kelly, but come on. We now have a rudderless team caught in the storm of the NBA nightly battles. Officially tanking. Please stop lying to us.
Also, yes I'm a huge Jazz fan. Have been since I was a kid. But what we just found out yesterday is being a Jazz fan IS going to suck for the next 2+ years. I'm one of the weirdoes that would like to spend the 14 -15 hours a week I dedicate to supporting the Jazz to watch good, competitive basketball. I don't want to watch the Jazz be bad fingers crossed they get the draft picks right.
