Orlando Magic's rigidity, weaknesses, frustrations repeatedly exposed

The Orlando Magic and their fans were clearly frustrated with the officiating in their overtime loss to the Miami Heat. But the real culprit for the loss came in the form of continued struggles to make the little plays late need to win games. It is unfortunately a repeated problem.

  1. Suggs needs to start. He is a beast. The problem last night was Cole. He took so many ill advised shots. Cole needs a reality check. Gary can’t play defense.

  2. Its time to be brutally honest, P5 needs to play team ball. He can be an allstar, but the strenght of the team lies with ball movement, inside out.

  3. When the Magic are up in the 4th we play like its soccer. Let's run the clock down each play. It's a factor in our loses. Did anyone notice in the 1st quarter when Mosley calls a timeout when WE are up and switches the offense to run iso through Paolo? I must not see what coach sees. Regarding the refs, since the Magic do rely heavily on calls and put pressure on the refs to make those calls stark discrepancy starts to put more pressure on the refs to even the playing field regardless of the accuracy of calls.

  4. Absolutely no excuse for Franz and P5 not to be coached to immediately get rid of the ball by this time. When Franz gets the ball I feel most of the others are retreating to play d. And of course, there is no excuse JSuggs isn’t in at the end of the game and in OT. He was easily the most dominant player in the guy. Can an assistant suggest anything to to Mos? Kelle made two straight down the stretch and then didn’t see the ball until the end.

But at this point for the Magic given their place in the lottery the best scenario would be not to go up too much. Last year OKC by the Clippers losing their last game, they were able to draft Jalen Williams.

  5. Adding, and you touched very well on it is that the composition of the close out lineup is the potential, very real problem in the similarities in the games of Franz and Paolo. Both are about the same size, good offensive players but not creators and often are a deep hole once they get the ball (Bol Bol also) but not above average defensively. And Harris is not starter material on a contender. Given the Magic could nab a really good draft piece the management has a problem. To me the best team is JSuggs, J.I. and Kelle with WKC and Paolo, with Franz coming to replace Paolo or Isaac.

The Magic resemble the Thunder but their approach is extremely different as the ball rarely bounces with OKC and they have a vision especially when Chet’s comes on the stage, and if Poku and Dieng develop, as I strongly believe.

It’s a little disturbing to see how rigid Moseley coaches and adapts but give him time.

  6. If you randomly turn the channel to an Orlando Magic game, the first thing/play you will see in current time is Paolo dribbling for 10-15 seconds.
