*looks up Julian Champagnie highlights*
watching highlights as we speak!
Philly has dropped two guys this year who have ended up being serviceable players. Isaiah Joe and Charles Bassey. If the trend continues, this guy is gonna end up being solid too

I took very short notes on several prospects for the 2021 draft. Julian Champagnie withdrew from that draft, declared in 2022 and went undrafted. As a 2021 prospect he was a versatile forward who could shoot but not really create. Here’s one 2022 scouting report on him in [article](https://open.substack.com/pub/theboxandone/p/julian-champagnie-2022-nba-draft) and [video](https://youtu.be/yfqCjLFNGNo) form
Are we sure the FO didn’t just mishear Pop talking about some champagne he wants them to get for him?
I thought we would pick up Balmaro
Well we still have another $15M or so to reach the salary floor, so why the hell not? Give him a few games of run, see if there’s any potential there worth persisting with, and if not, just move on to the next minimum guy.
I thought we’re getting Julian Newman.
Damn Bryn fumbled the bag. Choose your woman wisely young kings.
I’ve seen in some places that they should’ve picked up Leandro Bolmaro instead. Are teams just cutting G League players now?
Our strange season continues
Does he play defense?
I liked him in college so hopefully he will be useful for us.
Oh nice! This was one of my dark horse guys to watch going into the draft. He’s a swingman who was predominantly cast as a go-to scoring option in college and which he thrived. He did a little bit of everything, attacking the rim, hitting from mid-range, and was a pretty good threat from three
He’s 6’8 and has a decent enough frame and as I mentioned he has good form on his jump shot. He has the makings of a three and D player for sure
Some of his weaknesses come down to the reality that despite his size he’s not really a plus athlete. He could still become a really good defender with his size, but nowadays 6’8 guys on the wing aren’t as rare as a used to be. If you don’t have plus athleticism, a plus wingspan, or natural basketball IQ, there’s no guarantee you’ll ever become anything special on that end. His foot speed was occasionally troublesome even in college. I imagine it hasn’t done him any favors in the pros
Offensively he did a lot in college, but a ton of it really came down to him having a good jumper and being bigger than a lot of the defenders tasked with dealing with him. He’s not particularly creative and doesn’t really have a lot of advanced moves. His ball handling is okay.
As nice as his form is he was extremely streaky as a shooter. Both down too shot selection and occasionally that pretty jumper not being so pretty with him occasionally letting his offhand get in the way.
Another positive though, he’s extremely great with his offball movement and while I don’t think he has the athleticism to be a great on ball defender, he had great instincts off ball in college and I think that could translate
In summary, there are some interesting things here. He’s going to be a limited guy but I could see him breaking the rotation based off his shooting and his size. He can probably play two positions in the front court and if anything from college has translated, will probably be one of the better off ball players right off the bat. He really knows how to navigate screens. Don’t expect much creativity or individual scoring outside of straight line drives and catch and shoot opportunities, but he is definitely a prospect worth taking a look at.
Champagnie Papi!!!!
Always rated him
Welp, I saw Utah cut Bolmaro and was hoping we’d reach out, but maybe this guy will bring something. Uh…who?
Pop so drunk, thought he was looking at a wine list…”I’ll take the champagnie!”
